The Capital Officer was black and Ashli was white. He had a history of careless handling of a firearm and should have been fired. Ashli was unarmed and posed no threat. There was no struggle or chase involved. She was executed and the Officer never faced charges. There is no statute of limitations on manslaughter so he can still be charged.

You know when you make false statements, it makes people wonder if other statements you've made may also be false.

While it's true that there is no SOL on murder in all 50 states of the U.S., the same is not true for manslaughter. Specifically in the District of Columbia, the SOL for manslaughter is 3 years which would have expired on January 6th 2024 for the shooting in question. Additionally:

"The investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time Byrd fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, he did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber." – DOJ Press Release, April 14, 2021

It was also determined that by firing that single shot at Babbett Lt. Bryd likely saved lives (of those members of Congress and others shelter in place in the area Lt. Bryd was defending).
