Risk has two components; the likelihood of the risk and the magnitude of the consequence of the risk. The likelihood of needing a firearm is low but the consequence of not having one when one is needed is high. Therefore, the risk is high. High risks should be mitigated. That’s why we use safety devices, protocols and training to mitigate those risks.

There's some truth in that. They will at least be looking forward to larger mass shootings in public places within the states listed in my link. But not in public schools quite yet.

So my wife was shopping and heard gunshots. She was near the front of the store and the shots came from the rear. She left out of the store as police were arriving. She left the scene but had to remain in the parking lot until police cleared the scene.

A younger man decided to feel insulted by an older family man when he told him to remain clear of his wife and kids. The younger man pulled a gun and threatened them. The older man pulled his gun and shot the younger man several times, but the young man fled the scene and drove himself to the hospital. Police arrested him there. The older man was also wounded but only grazed.

If she had been armed, she would have defended herself if needed. Otherwise, she was a sitting duck.

I would say her number came up in that incident and she won by fleeing the scene. She now has her own weapon to carry if needed.
