"PHOENIX (AZFamily/AP) — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes made good on her threat and sued the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday for the delay in swearing in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva.

The Democratic attorney general filed the lawsuit in Washington on behalf of Grijalva. It asks a judge to let other people, such as federal judges, who are authorized to administer the oath swear in Grijalva if Johnson has not done so."

I don't know what exactly to think of this. First, I think a judge, or the Governor can already swear her in without a lawsuit.
Second, with the House not being in session I fail to see why it matters. Nothing is happening anyway.

My opinion is this is just another (in a long list) attempt for attention. I have actually had some dealings with her office due to the fact that she took over our county attorney's office for awhile. That was after she arrested our county attorney. Then he was reelected. He couldn't be seated after reelection . (He more than likely deserves it) Then she got the first lady of the Navajo Nation (Mrs. Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren) installed in the office. Anyway, in my attempt to deal with her over an animal cruelty case, I couldn't tie Trump into it. So nothing happened until the new County Attorney took over.
I hold the opinion that this is just one more in a long list of embarrassments she has suffered upon the citizens of Arizona.

Still, it will be interesting to see what happens.

I appreciate the help from the mods because I forgot the link. I had it, quoted it, then neglected to add it.

I don't think you read the op.
All she is suing for is to swear in rep. Adelita Grijalva. She asks that the speaker either swear her in or allow someone else to do it.
Honestly, I think that can already be done.

Well, at least perhaps we have one congressional representative who isn't getting paid.
I hadn't thought of that, I bet she gets paid though.

I did, I'm just making my own suggestions.

Understood. If I was going to sue someone I certainly would sue for trillions of billions. Otherwise it's a waste of time.

I was basically mocking tRump and his outlandish lawsuits.

The House is not in session. She cannot be sworn in during a recess. End of story.
There have been others sworn in while the House was out of session. I also think a judge or the Governor can already do it.
Being sworn in is not the same thing as "being seated". I think the House must be open for that .
I don't think it's worth a lawsuit.

I would say that is 50/50 and something she will have to work out, once seated, if she gets it worked out. Johnson is not only Republican, but an asshole in his own right.

Sadly, it's not required to be nice to hold office. It seems it's almost a requirement to be an asshole. I know it isn't a written rule, but it does seem to be an established tradition.

Nope. Duty of the Speaker of the House unless the House authorizes someone else and they can't do that if they are not in session.

You know a lot more about Mayes than I do, but she just looks to be more interested in climbing higher in the Democratic Party than doing anything good for Arizona. Grijalva is going to be just as useless as her dad Raul was. Already manufacturing a crisis out of nothing.

Interesting.
Still seems like more a quest for attention than anything else. What can a representative do that a representive-elect cannot do while the House is in recess?
Anything? Anything at all?

The few Representatives in Congress, and Senators I have talked with or corresponded back and fourth with have been pretty decent folk, but mostly people I met, while in a position they respected. Although, I did have a 5/10 minute chat with a governor (within last 3 years), on the fly, when our paths crossed, that yielded a positive action, on what I brought up, and a public announcement, on the news, later that evening, and until that chance meeting, he didn't know me, at all. Again, a case of an elected Leader, not an asshole.

I have had mixed experiences with elected officials as well. I may actually have had more positive experiences than bad ones. The negative experiences always seem to be the ones I remember first. Perhaps I am the one being the asshole. The one time I met Jesse Helms he asked why I was examining my hands after he shook my hand. When I told him I wanted to make sure all my fingers were still there, I guess I was the one being an asshole.
