Are you equipped for lawn maintenance?

Iam not sure. Never tried.
I am thinking that if two of the three conditions for starting are met, the seat switch alone will not kill the engine.

So you can get out of the seat as long as the blades are not engaged and the parking brake is set, but if you do it with the blades engaged or the brake not set, it should kill the engine because it thinks you have fallen off.

If you are just mowing and you move off the switch, it should kill the engine- at least that's how my sisters JD works because she complained if she bounces around in the seat too much it will shut down.

It shouldn't start without an operator in the seat, unless it has been modified...

I think it will also. The seat switch apparently only operates if the blades are engaged.

You goobers, I'm talking about rigging the seat switch. It's garbage.
You can buy a ready-made rigup for like $12

I bought a new JD a couple years ago. What a POS. I went back to my Husqvarna. It is a far superior machine.
I say they both have their pros and cons.

I've had both. I will say the John Deeres are more heavy duty.

Husqvarnas do the uhh "lift and chuck" thing a little bit better.

I like the foot pedals, too.

Yes, we know. We were talking about the behavior of an unmodified machine, e.g. the Cub that SootedUpCyndi was talking about.

Rigging the seat switch is a simple thing to do, it's just a jumper.

The manufacturers want to make the machine functional and still have the safety features. IOW, the logic of allowing the operator to get out of the seat if the brake is set and the blades are disengaged is done so people DON'T disable the seat switches...

The interlock on my Husq shuts down if any of the three conditions, clutch engaged, set brake, or operator seated, are not met in most cases. It will allow the operator to dismount if the clutch is disengaged and the brake is set. It has a fourth condition that will shut the engine down if the clutch is engaged and reverse is selected. However, there is a bypass for this on the ignition switch.

I live in cold country too and I am about to drain the sprinkler system as well. My mower is being put away. Stabilizer is something I really believe in. Been using it for over ten years with no ill effects. Because I keep a fair amount of fuel in cans, I treat them with Stabil as soon as I bring the full cans home, then I don't have to remember if I treated it or not. LOL

After a career in industrial maintenance, I have seen more than my share of people who have done the same type of stuff. I wish I had a dime for every time I've said "Push the green button." Then I retired and my neighbor asked me to look at his tractor--said it wouldn't start. The first thing I did was to check for fuel. Empty fuel tank. SMH. LOL

It's a lawnmower, not a 2-ton backhoe. :rolleyes-41:
What it needs to do is go and turn and stop and cut or not cut.

Sure and most of the people who own these toys aren't smart enough to not reach up under the mower deck while the clutch is engaged. Or they put their ten year old on it and he reaches under it. Then they want to sue the mfr. and the price goes up. I don't have a problem with the safety features. They haven't made me any less productive.

JD's have a pretty paint job. Beyond that, garbage IMHO.
That's why their deck metal is thicker mil than Husqvarna, amirite? :D

Oh, I just had a heckuva time sharpening my blades..oh!

The nuts didn't wanna come off so I'm rollin' with 2 breaker bars and crescent wrenches,

even though I do have 2 of the right wrenches..somewhere. I got one 5 footer wedged up against the ground,

steppin' on the deck and tryin' to keep it steady while I crank on the other 3 foot breaker bar and wrench.

An impact driver is the proper tool. As the fer the sharpenin' part, I got that downpat, it's not exactly

OSHA appproved, but I got my methods. It should be good til at least this time next year.

I chopped up all the moss with the John Deere after the hurricane. Nothing caught on the spindle, I

checked. Didn't have to rake or pick up much, chopped the moss up, it's fertilizer.

Next is hot-rodding. :aargh:

I want some more throttle!
