Seems like there's more commercials now than there used to be. TV Show segment might be 7 minutes, then the commercials go on for sometimes as many as 5. This feels like a lot. Though maybe only because instead of the past's 30 sec commercials now we get shorter length ones but more of them?

Also, cable companies prevention of Fast Fowarding through on-demand 'free' programming isn't making it seem free to me. If I have to watch commercials on a on-demand program it's even mworse to me than watching the show on regular channels since there at least I can turn the channel and watch something else. But on on-demand you have to sit there. Best you can do is hit Mute or leave the room. But isn't compelling viewers to view the ads counter to the notion of free on-demand?

I hate having commercials on cable stations that I am paying for

Yes, and there is no way to turn them off...change a channel and walla commercial

cable has become a racket

PBS may not have commercials but they spend seemingly endless time boring viewers with fund raising schemes.
