Farmers John Deere equipment has computers on the tractors, etc. They can attempt to start the tractor and, on the screen, see a notice the tractor is locked up and will not start. To fix it, John Deere schedules the fix weeks into the future, and most farmers simply pay the outrageous fees.

There is a fast fix as shown in the video and a recovery of fund paid to John Deere.

I absolutely DESPISE the way all of our machines are computer controlled!

The smartest thing a government could do these days is to outlaw computer control of machinery. There just is no need for it to be this way.

I'd love to have a car that I could do repair on. Back in the early 90's, I was heading out for an afternoon with a couple of friends, one of whom was a Saudi man, when I realized there was steam coming from under the hood of my 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass, so I drove home, popped the hood and ascertained that there was a leak in a hose. I didn't have any of the proper size of hose, so as my friends waited in the car and we let the car cool down, I went to my neighbor and asked him, and he had just what I needed. I went in and got cool drinks for everyone and then replaced the short length of hose, and we were off.

My male Saudi friend watched, amazed, as a woman not only drove a car, which was illegal in his country, but fixed it too! Fun!

I want a car I can fix in my own driveway.

John Deere demonstrated that remotely, they can stop tractors from moving. Of course, auto makers more than likely know this as well.
A 1972 still had primitive computer on system but today cars are almost talking to you. In fact, on trips, my son in laws car talks to him telling him where to turn and how far away the turn is.

I can drive without a computer telling me how and where.

No wonder people are so dumb these days. When hubby and I moved out of Seattle, to Port Angeles, about 65 miles away, a friend of ours simply could not find our new home without her GPS. After making the trip about 10 times, she still could not do it on her own.

Technology really is making people stupid!

The Democrats made that mandatory in new cars.

Here is something so hard to do, notice your temperature gage is showing the engine is heating too much and very fast, so stopping is the correct move. Many will just keep driving causing head gaskets to blow up and ruin the engine.

Yep. In the instance I described, the place where I picked up my friends was only about a quarter mile from my home.

I owned one Oldsmobile coupe. I handled real estate for a family and to pay me, they gave me the car.

I loved my Cutlass! My first car!

.
After what you said, I tried to look at photos to see what model I had. Learned a lot about cutlasses from 1990 forward. My Olds was not a performance model. It might have been one of the 1980s era models.

LOL, that's something. If you go too far in three different directions from PA, you end up in the drink. LOL, that was humorous OPJQ. Thanks.

Yep. This has been going on for years.

John Deere is no longer a tractor company. They are a software company.
