Are Tariffs A Good Idea?

The wsj reflects the Harvard Business School teaching of live for today and to hell with tomorrow
Whatever you believe about the WSJ, they do stock market analysis as a basis for what they do and have been doing it for ages. Having said that, I watch Bloomberg TV 10 hours a day (given that I am a trader in the market) and on that channel, they bring on economic analysts from all over the world, for them to give their opinion. I watched the channel today and they had on about 6 different analysts and everyone stated that this tariff war with Canada and Mexico was likely to be harmful to the economy.

Hey all Trump supporters here, use your brains and not your balls. The only thing you will do with your balls is eject semen as you fuck everything around you. You will end up being responsible for the children that are born.

They have been pushing idiotic nonsnense for decades, ignoring the failure of the free trade policy.

They have zero crediblity.

Sure

And the business schools teach students to think only as far ahead as they plan to work for their present company

And thats not long

FYI

$2 trillion is losses to the economy have occurred this week because of this announcement.

Oh and by the way, I am watching an analyst right now that states "Trump does not know how trade and economics works these days. These tariffs are not going to make us more competitive, it will make Europe and other countries more competitive................against us!

A personal anecdote isn't a useful measure, and it certainly isn't reliable from someone with a political bias.
It's good enough for me.

Who ya gonna believe, democrats or your own lying eyes?

You are funny in your ignorance

AI Overview

As of August 2024, The Wall Street Journal had 4.25 million subscribers, including print and online. The majority of subscribers were online-only.

The Wall Street Journal is owned by Dow Jones, which also owns Barron's, MarketWatch, Investor's Business Daily, and Financial News. The Journal is considered the world's leading business publication.

I guess you are now going to say that the Dow Jones is ignorant about economics and biased, right?

Wow. There is no person, media outlet, or politician you cult zombies won't throw under the bus for Dear Leader.

The Wall Streeters are intelligent

But western lib intelligentsia reminds me of Italian sports racing cars in the 1950’s

Meaning huge powerful engines, but primitive suspension systems and weak brakes that put them in the hay bales more often than the winners circle

They will be regained by the end of next week.

They won't last longer than a week. Mexico doesn;t even seem to care, it's as if they have insiders in the WH.

If they last a month I would be shocked. He needs to keep tariffs on at least a year to see the intended results and he won't take the pressure.

The problem will be "will he be viewed as someone who bends or even breaks in negotiations"? This won't be a good reputation to have once USMCA (Or CUSMA) comes up for re-negotiation in a year.

We have at least three cult members on this thread, I would love for any of them to expound on their economic reasoning of why these tariffs are beneficial.

Tariffs on $20.7 billion worth of goods will take effect immediately, while tariffs on the remaining $86.3 billion in U.S. products will begin in 21 days, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement late Monday. They will remain until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn, he said.

“Because of the tariffs imposed by the U.S., Americans will pay more for groceries, gas and cars, and potentially lose thousands of jobs,” Trudeau said. “Tariffs will disrupt an incredibly successful trading relationship. They will violate the very trade agreement that was negotiated by President Trump in his last term.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped about 800 points, or 1.8%. The S&P 500 fell 2.1% and was set for its worst day of the year. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite slid 3%, weighed down by a separate issue affecting Nvidia, which was already down more than 9%.

In Canada, meanwhile, retaliation against U.S. tariffs could also extend to its individual provinces. Ontario Premier Doug Ford told NBC’s “Meet the Press NOW” on Monday that Canada would “respond like they’ve never seen before.”

He said he was prepared to retaliate by cutting off the transmission of electricity from his province to the U.S. as well as shipments of nickel, which “will shut down manufacturing because 50% of the nickel you use is coming out of Ontario.”

It’s Deja vu all over again. He may even beat Hoover this time.

I don't usually even bother to look at silly memes and videos when posted as replies. These are a ridiculous way to engage in conversation.
Basically the same as a sign advertising that you're just a dumb ass who has run out of responses.

I can read. I can even comprehend. You don't seem to be able to.

Trump is a billionaire. That does not happen if you have no business acuity.

In addition, none of that affects what he is doing in the White House.

If you understood what was going on, you'd see that these tariffs are a win-win for America and a kick in the balls to those who have been at war with us economically for decades.
Not according to people who actually know shit.

So, what exactly does that mean? Be specific!
