The problem starts with definitions of "consciousness." Self-awareness?This idea has been circulating for some time now.
Humans in their infinite arrogance have claimed repeatedly (in history) an exclusive on consciousness.
But science has proven repeatedly that this is not the case. (See for example, animal psychophysics, which is quantitative).
Now we know (as of last year) that DNA itself operates at the quantum level. There is both entanglement and tunneling in and along nucleotides.

Makes me think of discussions of "life" on other planets, alien life. Sentient life?
Huh?"Self" awareness is an advanced form of awareness.
Think, ciliated bacteria. They are fully "aware".
Humans have it backwards. They think quantum is advanced. But it's not, it's primitive.
The earring has microscopic hoops. I've been trying to emphasize the importance of "in the limit as dt => 0". Advanced forms widen the window, that's all. The trick is how you relate the wide windows to the narrow ones. Fractal is one way, Cantor dust is another, there are more.
Entanglement is entirely suitable at a microscopic scale. It gives you a stable window that only changes with "events". The primitive cyanobacter uses entanglement, as do many forms of plant life when they photosynthesize. A photon hitting some rhodopsin generates entanglement, and quantum tunneling too.
Remember that Feynman requires integration over "every available path". Which presupposes there's something there to be integrated. How does the wave function know to come together again?
Ciliated bacteria are demonstrably aware.Huh?
Aware? Self-awareness. Hmmm... Oh it's you again. You are an inspiration...

I have found members here to be...
I have found members here to be a mixed bag. Some are obviously well trained in fields they've worked in. Learned. Experienced on different levels. Some use the lingo and technical jargon that has them stand out. But is education proof of intelligence, intellectual capacity..? Does experience...www.usmessageboard.com
Do they create art? They are not self-aware are they?Ciliated bacteria are demonstrably aware.
Start there.
They respond to changes in their chemical environment by changing the direction of motion of the microtubules that make up the cilia.
This is a whole-organism response, it is not just localized to the point where the chemical is applied. The organism will move away from noxious chemicals and move towards food - and doing this requires a concerted motor response by the cilia on all sides of the "body".
The bacterium will swim away from toxic stuff, and swim towards food. Therefore, it is "aware" of its surroundings.
If that were true you wouldn't believe that everything is alive.I'm a scientist. I speak science. I deal in EVIDENCE, not old wives' tales and antiquated beliefs.
