I have an apple McIntosh computer, works fine. A few days ago my mouse died. It's at least 8 years old, so no problem.

I bought a new "Magic Mouse," hooked it up, charged it, and it will do everything but scroll. WTF?

I rebooted the computer, disconnected and reconnected the mouse, turned it off and on, etc. Many times. No scrolling.

So I exchanged it with a new one. Same thing. It is hooked up but will not scroll.

I go into settings and see the mouse settings. There is a button that says "Natural scrolling" on/off...makes no difference. Either way, it does not scroll.

I can still use the buttons on my keyboard to scroll - sort of - but what the ****? Any suggestions on how I can get this mouse to scroll? It does not appear to be a problem with the mouse itself, since two of them have exactly the same issue.

Parenthetically, I have a wired mouse that works, but that is vulgar.

IDK, DGS. I am not an Apple guy--never used anything but windows machines. That being said, I have found with some of my old machines that the mfr. makes small changes that fall into the category of unsupported. Simply put---planned obsolescence. They can't make money off of you if you don't update. That would by my GUESS.

You need to be on at least Mac OS 15.2.

The latest OS is Tahoe 26.1, this is a fairly new OS, a month, maybe two months old. Apple did a refresh on everything this time, some of it is really cool though, but I kind of preferred the previous OS, it was more "blocky" and traditional looking.

My old Logitech mouse is still going strong....It's on it third laptop now. I think I paid $5.00 for it at Big Lots back in the day.

One AA battery every six months or so and I'm GTG. :)

WOW! Looks like they have fancy ones now.....I saw one there for a MAC, they may have others.

I am running macOS 13.7.8

If this is not current (I re-booted yesterday), how do I get to the latest/greatest?

I just spent an hour chatting with Apple support and apparently because my Mac is old, it is not compatible with the newest mouse. I will use an old wired mouse from the junk box. Seems to work fine.

Do you have your Bluetooth enabled?

Apple support are idiots. The age of your computer means little, it is the software which determines it. If you have the hardware needed and the proper drivers, your computer should be good to go.

Apple is just trying to sell you a new computer.

...and I would buy a new computer if I thought it was "necessary." But this one works fine with my wired mouse.

I also have a Toshiba PC that I bought when I worked for Westinghouse in 2012. It is slower than molasses in January, but fully functional otherwise.

I've got a few laptops that I've purchased over that period and I agree. I am keeping them. They still run CD/DVD and a lot of my resident software. The tech companies are doing their best to make them obsolete though.

Yeah, you're running Ventura, that's old by now. My primary is my Mac Mini M1 chip running the lates OS Tahoe. Great prices to be found and it gets OS and current security updates. Heck there is no know end of life limitations on the silicone chipped Macs. At least not yet.

I'm using a Logitech M510 right now. I stenciled 5/25/17 3yr on it the day I bought it. So it has definitely outlasted it's warranty. It takes 2 AA batteries, which I like because the batteries add a little ballast weight the mouse.

I also have a Logitech Call of Duty edition G9X that I inherited from my father. It actually has a little drawer in the mouse that holds up to 4 weights. And it comes with four 4 gram weights and four 7 gram weights. So you can adjust the weight of the mouse. And it also has 2 grips that clip on too. A wide one and a skinny one.

But the cool thing is the scroll wheel. It has a button on the bottom that disengages the clicker on the metal scroll wheel and just lets it spin freely. So you can just flick it to scroll through long documents really fast and easy.

LOL, I still have a couple of OLD Logitech thumb ball mice. One wireless and one hard wired. I don't know why I hold on to this stuff and I don't even know if it still works.

I haven't tried one of those yet. But I've got one that straps onto your finger. And a handshake grip mouse too.

I also have one with an integrated keyboard that's shaped like a remote control and you just point it at the screen to where you want the pointer to go. My daughter likes that one but it doesn't vibe with me. It would be great for presentations though.
