Do you have any special ones you make every year? My ex's family always made wontons and teriyaki chicken for new years.

The most popular Russian New Year salad "Oliviye":
6 boiled eggs
4 boiled potatoes (boil them not pealed)
1 boiled chicken breast
a few mini-pickles (according to your taste)
1 small can of sweet peas (or less, according to your taste)
half of a golden onions (or more, depends on your taste)

Chop everything, add some salt and mix up with mayo.

P.S. Foreigners love it quite a bit too.

We love those little smokies wrapped in bacon and brown sugar

Yum! Somone in my family is making those this year and bringing them. I am trying to figure out what all to make.

Ever try cheeseburger dip? Its delicious with good crusty bread cubed

Like a fondue ?

Its thicker than a fondue.....but very rich and savory. Here is link for the recipe. I don't use the sesame seeds

This looks good too thank you.

My Uncle is from Bermuda and every New Years he makes something called Hoppin John. Has anyone had this, it tastes great.

Black eyed peas? I make them every New Years Eve. Have to eat some on New Years Day to have good luck throughout the new year.

I usually try to mix it up from year to year for appetizers. But here's a few of what I have done. I rarely measure, except for the basting sauce for rumaki.

1. Devilish eggs (a different twist to an old standby)

6 boiled, shelled & halved eggs
1/4 to 1/3 C mayo
1 Tablespoon or so, horseradish

2. Bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers

jalapenos-cut in half, cleaned
fill each half with cream cheese
wrap with a slice of bacon, so that the final end is on the bottom.

Lay poppers 'upside down' on broiler pan to cook & set the bottom bacon a few minutes, then turn & broil tops a few minutes more until as done as you like it.

3. Pickled asparagus wraps

thin sliced ham lunchmeat--rectangle shaped is easiest
cream cheese
whole pickled asparagus spears
toothpicks

lay out a slice of lunchmeat, smear a layer of cream cheese & lay asparagus spear across one end & roll up. Secure with 3 or 4 toothpicks, cut into pieces.

4, Stuffed small portabella or crimini or button mushrooms

pop out stems & chop fine, mix with cream cheese, crumbled bacon & refill caps, broil just a few minutes.

(can also add goat cheese, cheddar or?, salsa or whatever you like for added flavor)

5. Mock Rumaki

Couple cans of whole water chestnuts-cut in half
Bacon-cut in thirds
round toothpicks

wrap chestnuts with bacon pieces & secure with toothpicks. Bake on broiling rack @ 350 for about 20 minutes or until bacon is cooked but not crisp.

basting sauce:
1C brown sugar
1 tsp mustard
3C ketchup
1tsp balsalmic OR cider vinegar

Combine all & bring to a boil, reduce heat & stir till sugar is dissolved.

Drain broiler pan of fat. Baste rumaki with sauce & broil 5 minutes to carmelize sauce.

Thanks for the reminder.

I've also made a platter with meats, cheeses, crackers, black & green olives, pickle spears, fruits & veggies.

and made a cheeseball with crackers around it

We usually have chip, veggies and dips before opening packages, then have dinner. We have Santa Christmas morning.

Merry Christmas to you drifter, and everyone! May your days be joyful!
