Since yesterday I've been trying to create an account for access to some Depts. Entered my info, and codes received thru text. Took pics of myself and my ID and all was accepted. Then it tells me to re-enter my phone number.......it comes back saying it doesn't match their records. HUH??? You just accepted everything required, sent me numerous texts to that same phone number, yet it's not a match????????

There's not even a phone number to call them, only basic FAQ with canned answers that doesn't address this specific problem.

Anybody here have any other ideas???

I hate trying to log in there. We live out here in the sticks and have spotty cellular reception. Sometimes the SMS code comes after the 10 minute expiration time.

Typo? :dunno:

Nope, if so they wouldn't have been able to send text codes.

But I may have figured out the problem........on official records they have my old phone number that no longer applies and is what they were trying to match with.

Meaning I have two options.....

Either have them send the final access code by mail and wait a week or more

OR

Delete this attempt, change my contact info on record........then try again

I really hate having to do anything on government websites, so frustrating. :102:

Which one is that??? The SMS?? And how does it differ from all the other fricken codes required??

I've never done this one before and just trying to get an access account set up to take care of some business. A one time thing, then over & done. I do NOT want continued access.......the least amount of contact with government as possible

I might try again either later or tomorrow, just to see if it works.......then I'll go to plan B

I meant the code sent through SMS text, to my crappy cell phone.

Gee, it's almost like the personnel cuts at the social security administration were a bad thing.

go away troll unless you have any pertinent information to share. and has little to do with SSA

I signed up with login.gov a few years ago.
I don't know if this is your problem, but maybe.
When I signed up, entered all the info ect, I could not log in until they sent me a letter that I responded to online.

It would be less frustrating if you knew the added security actually WORKED, but anyone reading the news is aware that none of the government's half-baked security measures actually work. So they are ineffectual and dysfunctional. Now you know why chinese and foreign spying, hacking and stealing is such a big problem. BTW, you do know that the IRS still does your taxes on MS-DOS? Yep, the most powerful agency in the world still runs on 50 year old technology.

Did you request to send the final code by mail in the verification (that it's you & not someone else)??? I know they had given that as one of the options, but I went with getting the code thru text to my phone, and that's when they said the number didn't match their records.

So that 'added security' only works for regular people trying to get some info.......but not for foreign hackers.....wouldntcha know it.
