I asked copilot for an AI review and that's below. The three series began with the first Prey book in 1989. As of 2025, here’s how John Sandford’s major series break down:
  • Prey Series (Lucas Davenport): 35 books, starting with Rules of Prey (1989) and most recently Lethal Prey(2025)

  • Virgil Flowers Series: 13 books, beginning with Dark of the Moon (2007) and the latest being Bloody Genius (2019)

  • Letty Davenport Series: 4 books, starting with The Investigator (2022) and continuing through to Deep State (2025)

  • Review of Lethal Prey by John Sandford

John Sandford’s Lethal Prey is a gripping return to form for fans of the long-running ā€œPreyā€ series, bringing together the dynamic duo of Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers in a high-stakes cold case that’s anything but cold. The story kicks off with a 20-year-old unsolved murder and a dying sister’s desperate $5 million reward offer, which draws in a swarm of true crime bloggers and amateur sleuths. As Davenport and Flowers sift through the chaos of online theories and real-world danger, Sandford masterfully blends procedural grit with sharp, often hilarious banter between the two leads. The killer’s identity is revealed early on, but the tension doesn’t let up as the detectives race to stop a murderer who’s always one step ahead.

What makes Lethal Prey stand out isn’t just the clever plot or the fast-paced action—it’s the chemistry between its protagonists and the way Sandford plays with modern crime-solving culture. The inclusion of internet sleuths adds a fresh twist, and while some readers might find the ending a bit open-ended, it leaves room for reflection—and maybe a sequel. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the series, this installment delivers a satisfying mix of suspense, humor, and heart.

What Preys Together Falls Apart

I was disappointed in finding out that Lucas is Liberal about ordinary felons, also DEI about Aframs and Gayists. He's only Dirty Harry about psychos that aren't realistic.
