Utility worker laws that give strangers carte blanc access to your property without any prior notice or consent.

Criminals are not stupid. They are using these laws to rape, rob and murder innocent people and these laws are the perfect cover and mechanism.

Nearly every state has laws that specifically give legal authority for ANY utility worker to enter private property "for the purpose of carrying out their lawful duties". Electric utilities, water utilities, gas utilities, cable utilities, internet providers etc and anyone they send out to your private property for such duties.

because of this, violent criminals are increasingly taking advantage of this to enter private property, whether you are home or not, to carry out criminal and often violent acts.
Often wearing neon vests and driving vehicles with fake signs, they can enter your property at any time legally protected until YOU discover the fraud and manage to have law enforcement arrive on the scene. It is becoming a National problem and yet not ONE legislature in America is taking the time to address this threat. You Do Not Matter apparently.
Criminals know they can enter your property at any time under the guise of being a utility worker and (if you are home) after showing you fake credentials, your only option is to call Police, who may eventually arrive but the criminals will likely be long gone. By that time they've seen your property up close, windows, sheds, valuables around the yard etc. Or, they hit your home while you are gone with a fake ATT or Comcast labeled truck at your driveway so no one suspects.

In many states, even if you have protective dogs on your property, you are liable if they bite these people (criminal OR legitimate).

They said they were utility workers. But when they left the house, the wife was tied up and the husband was dead

America has drastically changed.
These carte blanc policies that rely on foundations of honesty and trust are no longer safe.

Until state legislators recognize the dangers and address them there will be a continued rise in violent crimes against homeowners by criminals laughing at the naivety of the law.

Some Common sense changes that are needed immediately......

1). In cases involving a Single private property, NO UTILITY WORKER shall enter a private property without express permission either prior or at the location before entering the private property. If a private property owner unlawfully refuses access required for other properties, then appropriate requests should be filed with the local sheriffs office for access.

2). Utility workers SHALL NOT ENTER any private property without prior explicit consent in writing when property owners are not home. Doing so can expose the property owner to unfair liabilities and even burglary in the case of criminals posing as utility workers.

What can you do?

Keep in mind that for the most part, these easements for utilities and legally protected access by any related utility and ANY employee of any utility or subcontractor depends on there being a utility at the property.

Being off grid and having electric meters removed will remove the legal access for electric utility related workers.

Likewise, satellite internet such as Starlink removes the need for cable/media access to your property (unless you are in a neighborhood where lines pass through all properties).

If you are on a well, that removes the need for water utility access.

The less reliant on public utilities, the safer you can be.

Is everyone aware of the recent SCOTUS ruling on Case v Montana?

You should read up on it.
Police no longer need a warrant OR probable cause to enter your private residence.
The Supreme Court just unanimously made cops infinitely more powerful (and dangerous).

Opinion: This is the lead up to the long awaited National Gun Confiscation (for your safety) that has been brewing for decades.

I don’t think they can enter your home, they just have access to your property, like your back yard and such
