But nationally, you're seeing record numbers of cases, hospitals overwhelmed and deaths are increasing. California, Texas and Florida are shutting down - again, not opening up, and outbreaks are flaring in other states as well.

Certainly in Texas, Arizona and Florida NOTHING was done to prepare. All of these states are running out of PPE, testing supplies, and and are in complete chaos. Why weren't they better prepared. California, at least had the good sense to re-supply hospitals, expand testing, and they're handling their increase in cases a whole lot better than the other three.

What you have is three Republican governors who followed Donald Trump's advice and ignored the scientists. They didn't want to do anything to run counter to what Trump was saying - no mask mandate, re-opening early, and who refused to prepare for any outbreak at all.

They passed a bill that they knew the Senate wouldn't approve. That is where the dirty details get smoothed out and since no one was serious about compromise, it wasn't going to happen. Notice we keep talking about hospitalizations because "cases" is just such a bad measure since it depends heavily on how much testing we're doing, treatment and the demographics of who gets it.
