I'm visiting a friend who lives off-grid in New Brunswick, in the Appalachian Mountains. Her home is solar powered.

This weekend, there was a huge windstorm, and thousands of people lost power, including those living in the two towns closest to my friend's home. We did not lose our solar power at all.

In fact, we enjoyed popcorn and a movie while the storm raged.

Solar and wind are both reliable, and cheaper than utilities are charging.

Yeah? let me know when wind powers Minneapolis. Or solar in Fargo winter. Not some off grid cabin. Big deal.

Wind could easily and cheaply power Minneapolis today.

The entire Province of Ontario is fully bought into wind power, and we have so much power that we're selling it to 22 American states.

Windmills provide 10% of the power. Solar somewhat less. Most of Ontario's power is generated by Nuclear (50%) and hydro (25%), with gas, solar and electric making up the balance. ALL of Ontario's power generation is clean energy.

When the last coal fired plants were shut down, air was cleaner, and there were few "high pollution days" in Toronto thereafter.
