We're talking about politicians. Now one with basic human decency or any sense of morality would go into the profession. That's true for every country.

You don't control corruption and waste by trying to elect "good" politicians. You do it by limiting the power of politicians and limiting their opportunities to be corrupt.

You can't pay people for influence if they have no influence.
