I'm dying to share this news about Brown University, but I don't dare bring it up at family gatherings.
My sister, who I love dearly, and I, are examples of the American dream, both of us immigrants to American, both Ivy League grads, both successful.....but Sis, a Brown grad, votes Left/Democrat.

So, when I saw today's report about how Trump tamed another Ivy, I wanted to badly to repeat it, but I don't dare to with Sis.

1."President Trump celebrated the deal Brown University struck with the administration to restore funding Thursday, another notch under the president’s belt in his war with higher education.
“Woke is officially DEAD at Brown.

2. “Congratulations to Brown University on the settlement made with the United States Government. There will be no more Anti-Semitism, or Anti-Christian, or Anti-Anything Else!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

3. Brown University announced Wednesday a deal with the administration to end three federal investigations into the institution’s compliance with discrimination laws, restore $500 million in federal funding and allow the university, based in Providence, R.I., to apply for new grants.
In exchange, Brown will pay $50 million to workplace development organizations in Rhode Island, separate men and women’s sports facilities on the basis of sex, and its health system will not prescribe puberty blockers or conduct gender reassignment surgeries on minors.
(Brown will use the real definitions of male and female.)

4. Along with that, Brown will ban programs that contain “unlawful efforts to achieve race-based outcomes,” have “merit-based admissions policies” and provide information and data to the government showing it is complying with the agreement.
(No more skin color admission policies!)

5.Trump is re-directing academia toward its original mission!

This is why we came to America.

I see this all the time and it always gives me the same thought:

If liberalism and leftism and progressivism were so good and doing so well and so obviously liked, then why is it that progressives are always so miserable and unhappy to discuss and debate their policies and their successes?

So Trump was able to bully Brown into following his agenda. Good for Trump but please stop saying the Right is for individual freedom. That is only true if the exercise of that freedom passes Trump litmus test.

How many progressives do you honestly know? I know plenty and they don't fit your description.

So Trump was able to bully Brown into following his agenda. Good for Trump but please stop saying the Right is for individual freedom. That is only true if the exercise of that freedom passes Trump litmus test.
Presidents use funding for social engineering. Biden did it. Obama did it. Clinton did it.
They shouldnt be funding higher education in the first place. They have no power to use our tax dollars for it.

So Trump was able to bully Brown into following his agenda.
Trump does not bully anyone. With any government program comes obligations and responsibilities, and if these places do not want to do the minimum to keep up their qualification for the additional federal/taxpayer grant money, they are perfectly free to walk away.

Good for Trump but please stop saying the Right is for individual freedom.
Freedom only extends so far. No freedom is unlimited.

That is only true if the exercise of that freedom passes Trump litmus test.
You mean the congressional requirements. Now go have yourself a good cry.

Of course not, I wouldn't think so. Me, I'm surrounded by progressives, I live in a deep blue city full of the dumb, clueless bastards, I've worked for the *****, I know them like the back of my hand.

Those minimums required to keep up their qualification was dramatically changed by Trump.

I feel the same about the 2nd.

You mean the congressional requirements. Now go have yourself a good cry.
What 'congressional requirements'? I only know of Trump's requirements.

Are they stopping admissions based upon daddy or grandaddy attending the school previously too OP?

If not, then nothing's changed, still exhibiting unmerited favor.

Social engineering is the opposite of freedom and yes many do it on both sides. I just don't like the Right claiming a monopoly on freedom they don't have.

They shouldnt be funding higher education in the first place. They have no power to use our tax dollars for it.
A very different issue.

If only your sister learns to love this country and despise Democrats.

Trump is not the only republican. IT is our well-known stated belief this nation was founded to produce and promote freedom. Democrats kick dirt in our faces since they want full control. Force me to buy an electric car, hell no.

Those minimums required to keep up their qualification was dramatically changed by Trump.

Were they? I don't know if that is true. No matter, either way, those are the requirements. Either meet them or shut up and get off the program, simple as that, there is no 'entitlement' to these programs.

Wow. If this keeps up our public schools, colleges and universities might actually start educating again instead of indoctrinating their students.

Good news indeed.

The "individual freedom" you wish is the same that the Nazis and Bolsheviks claimed.

Concentration camps, political prisoners, censorship, forced seizure of private property outright or through taxation.....

This is the sort of mindless drone that graduates from government school.

How many progressives do you honestly know? I know plenty and they don't fit your description.
Of course they do, liar.

All of you voted for this:

Race and gender preferences

Language police

No punishment for criminals

Open borders

Attacks on the Supreme Court

Transgender sports competitions

Antisemitism

Wealth tax

Cancel culture

Welfare State

Government run healthcare mandates

Sanctuary Cities

Two-Tiered Justice system

My sister and I were mostly polar opposites politically too--as are my two children. Not sure how members of the same family get that way, but it happens all too often.

Among my husband's siblings, two are Democrats while he and his brother were rightwing conservatives. My sister and her husband were also lifelong Democrats--I am not--and had five kids. Two of those are strong conservatives, one a middle-of-the-roader, two 'woke Democrats. We both have other kin who are also polar opposites.

And with the sociopolitical gulf between our two kids been miles wide, and all the other issues with family members, needless to say we don't talk any sociopolitical content at family gatherings or on Facebook or anywhere else that we knowingly interact.

Like you, so many times I wish I could discuss this or that issue with somebody but it just isn't worth it. Relationships have to be more important than politics.

How do you feel about this?

. " For Asian Americans, a changing landscape on college admissions

.... a Princeton University study that tried to measure how race and ethnicity affect admissions by using SAT scores as a benchmark. It uses the term “bonus” to describe how many extra SAT points an applicant's race is worth. She points to the first column.

African Americans received a “bonus” of 230 points, Lee says.

“Hispanics received a bonus of 185 points.

The last column draws gasps.

Asian Americans, Lee says, are penalized by 50 points — in other words, they had to do that much better to win admission.

“Do Asians need higher test scores? Is it harder for Asians to get into college? The answer is yes,”....."

I'm not sure that being polar opposites is the problem.

We've all seen that when they are losing the argument or have no response, Democrats choose violence, assassination, rather that admit truth.

In families, this sometimes cause the rift, and we have seen Democrats not to have family in that doesn't agree with their agenda.

The recent online thread of cutting off family members who vote for Trump says more about the Democrats than those who voted for Trump.
