Looking back at Trump’s first inaugural address before his second
'American Carnage': Looking back at Trump's first inaugural address before his second
Eight years ago, Donald Trump delivered an inaugural address that set aside the typical optimism and promises of unity with a dark portrait of national life.

Don has always had a bit of a dystopian view of America. For someone who was born with the proverbial silver spoon and parlayed his familial advantages to evade responsibility for all manner of crimes I never understood why. In a political context I suppose he likes to pretend the country was left to him to govern while being in catastrophic shape. That way he can take credit for things like the state of the economy from day one even though he inherited two economies that were pretty strong.

To hear President Trump tell it, the nation is facing a rebellion in Los Angeles, an invasion by a Venezuelan gang and extraordinary foreign threats to its economy.Citing this series of crises, he has sought to draw on emergency powers that Congress has scattered throughout the United States Code over the centuries, summoning the National Guard to Los Angeles over the objections of California’s governor, sending scores of migrants to El Salvador without the barest hint of due process and upending the global economy with steep tariffs.
Legal scholars say the president’s actions are not authorized by the statutes he has cited and are, instead, animated by a different goal.
“He is declaring utterly bogus emergencies for the sake of trying to expand his power, undermine the Constitution and destroy civil liberties,” said Ilya Somin, a libertarian professor at Antonin Scalia Law School who represents a wine importer and other businesses challenging some of Mr. Trump’s tariffs.

Trump Declares Dubious Emergencies to Amass Power, Scholars Say
In disputes over protests, deportations and tariffs, the president has invoked statutes that may not provide him with the authority he claims.
More recently he has once again viewed things through an odd, one could say paranoid lens. Spinning some on the nation's problems in to full blown crises in order to claim powers he does not possess without the more than dubious declarations of "rebellions"........oh my!
Those among trump's loyal following have rejected the observation he is attempting to rule as an autocrat would by assuming extra legal, unconstitutional authority to handle things as he sees fit. The rejections coming despite the evidence staring them in the face almost daily.
