This still-young 21st-century has been a gloomy time for Americans. In January 2000, 69% of us, according to the polling and analytical firm Gallup, were satisfied with “the way things are going in the U.S.” Optimism has slid rather steadily ever since, and now just 22% of us are satisfied.

Little wonder. Over almost 25 years — an entire generation — we’ve had the trauma of 9/11, the two longest wars in U.S. history, devastating bear markets between 2000-2002 (when the S&P 500 plunged 57% and the Nasdaq shed 78%), plus both a housing and stock-market collapse just a few years later that wiped out trillions in wealth. This “Great Recession” of 2008 was, many economists thought, the worst downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Now add the COVID-19 pandemic four years ago that killed more than 1 million Americans, wiped out, in two horrific months, some 22 million jobs, and helped spark a burst of inflation that has only recently subsided.

It’s no coincidence that over this same period, the U.S. political divide has widened, with people on both sides of the spectrum arguing bitterly over our future. And it’s no coincidence that over this same period, institutional trust in just about everything has fallen precipitously. We don’t seem to trust anyone, other than those with whom we’re predisposed to agree with.

Much of this anger and distrust is aimed at Washington, D.C. I live here and in my travels, people tell me all the time that “Washington doesn’t work,” and that “nobody there can ever get anything done.” Of course, the elected representatives who are in Washington are invariably sent by the same folks who complain that nothing ever gets done.

So Washington, D.C. doesn’t work. You know what does? America itself. The country as a whole is doing better than the media or our politicians tell us. America, it seems, is humming along. Here are a few important examples:

The USA is not a Democracy but a tyrannical oligarchy that keeps us fighting each other over unimportant issues to keep us from rising up against our overlords; I dont see this changing until the masstards start to feel pain in a major way.

Every 3 letter agency in Washington is corrupt including the DOJ and every one of the ills you mentioned was orchestrated by the global elite.

One of those many agencies should be able to deal with MAGA mental health issues. I`m not fighting with anybody, but why are you so unhappy?

Good luck with the dreams Lefty Mutants .

To finish with some self respect you need to retire Cackler badly injured , and then look for a genuine candidate .

If you had played your cards smartly you could have had Elon Musk over a year ago .
And won in a canter, whatever you privately thought of him .

But the Killer Jabs rotted your brains and now we look forward to the Trump Land Slide plus some Allahu Akbars .

Getting inflation in check and lowering food and gas prices for the people is not a difficult thing to do... how anyone thinks we are better off today is mind boggling.... prices for everything is ridiculously too high and Biden could fix it in one day... why won't he?... he won't because the democrat party needs people in need... its why they opened the border to get millions of people in need to come here...
Two major wars happening with our dirty fingers in both... no sir we are not better off and we are not a strong nation anymore...

But you guys complain when the stock market does the same thing under a republican administration. You guys whine that the wealthy include billionaires who are democrats getting richer. When it’s under a democrat control well everyone wins. Who’s everyone

Stop lying to yoursellf. We are better off. No president can fix inflation in one day.

People who complain about politicians not getting things done, never say what it is that they want done. Has anyone else noticed that?
No I haven't noticed that because it's total nonsense. You ever heard of inner city murder rates? Fentanyl poisonings? Gangs taking over apartment buildings?

“Jobs: The U.S. unemployment rate is 4.1%. Look at this data going back three-quarters of a century to 1948. Historically, we’re doing pretty darn well. And there are still 8 million job openings. Employers simply can’t find enough workers.

The U.S. economy as a whole is also strong: GDP is currently growing at a 3% pace, which is roughly in line — with the outlier exception of the pandemic collapse and rebound — with growth over the past two decades.”

The US economy is strong and stable – anyone who claims otherwise is a liar.

Down , Down , Deeper and Down .

Your Economy stinks and is poised to collapse .
Sure the Fed can prop you up for a few months with interest rate cuts .
But once inflation starts to bite again you have only QE to fall back on .
And that publicly admits Bankruptcy --- creating more imaginary money to save your own paper assets and unable to cover interest payments and regenerate growth .

Meanwhile the enlarged BRICS community will be kicking you where it hurts most ,.

Goodbye American Pie .
Bread and water coming your way .

Three things need to happen in Washington DC to get them back to working for the people. 1) Lobbying needs to be completely outlawed as your congressman and senators are purchased. 2) Term limits for congressmen and the senators, career politicians need to stop. 3) Tax returns need to be a matter of public record annually for all congressmen, senators and departmental appointments.
Then you can talk about honesty in the federal government.

That is what I want done as a starting point, then we can talk about improving the quality of life for ALL Americans

Until any of these happen nothing will change, and American taxpayers and citizens have no other purpose but to provide for the American elite and foreign entities. Since The house and senate will never promote any of this and any bill introduced will be lost in committee by the old guard running this country the only way would be by the states with a constitutional convention.

If that ever was proposed the backlash would be like something you never seen as all former presidents (except maybe Trump), careers politicians, lobbyist groups, corporations both domestic and foreign, and the American media would fight to maintain the status quo.

Republicans will continue to lie about the ‘bad economy.’

You`re concerned with inner city murder rates but oppose any attempts at gun control. :auiqs.jpg:

You do know that if your god wins none of those prices are coming down...right?

Agree with most of what you posted, except that the BANKING/ FIANANCE industry tried too hide there mess as long as possible.
Things were collapsing a year or more before they couldn't hide it any more.

LAZY dishonest self serving party before country politicians from both party's cause most of our messes.
Serving the best interest of our country has gotten to the breaking point.
