Same thing happen at the telephone company advising for operators. I was not good enough to work there but was good enough to have my baby delivered there. Moved to Reno in the 70s and could not bet a jobs making change at a casino because patrons felt it was bad luck to take change from a person of color. I did go on to college and got a job but had to work twice as hard as others to prove my ability and worth. All men may be created equal but not all are created equally.
