right off the bat, Franken slams Cruz. i can think of a lotta examples we have posted in the current events section!
I've heard of numerous cases where this happened. One was caught on video in a church even though the gunman shot a couple, it could have been much worse. Ditto for an incident not too long ago outside a bar.
I understand Americas belief in their right to bear arms. Everyone deserves the right to life and liberty. A gun can assure that at times.
you do understand american politics/culture quite well for a....canadian!
I didn't at first, believe me. It's been a lengthy process. I learned a great deal from this site and others.
I recall being at a casino in New York right around the time Trump was just running for the Primaries for the GOP. I'm a pretty polite and engaging fellow so I was chatting with a couple, maybe 10 years older than me. The conservation turned to politics at some point and I laughed and said, "can you imagine that Donald Trump is running for president"? with a laugh.
The guy was dead serious when he said "well, he can't be any worse than the useless idiots we have had in office for so long". He wasn't rude or anything, but he was being sincere. For the first time I heard an American live in the flesh call it as he saw it. He and his wife seemed like your average Joe, so I assumed at that point many more felt this way.
I changed the subject and had a nice chat. I initially thought he was seeing the world differently than I, until I heard Trump bring up China and the illegal alien issue. I was clueless about your border problems.
At that point I listened to Trump a little more intently. I thought he was a Dem plant tbh, some guy from NY, who I knew built much of his empire on debt and government write offs (from the former mayors of NY). Regardless, I learned alot.
As it were, I never touched a gun, I'm not a big fan of them. However, I understand why they are acceptable in the hands of a good person. People have a right to defend themselves and their families. It's just that simple. The more I listened to Americans in ways I would never be exposed in Canada, the more I started to appreciate the libertarianism ingrained in you.
