I think a lot of the turn out for Cruz was lower because he was perceived to be an opportunist after not getting much done as a senator and running for POTUS before his first term was up. In addition, he doesn't spare any prized pigs. He has been consistent about not spending money on shit a lot of people want. However, in that election cycle the established republicrats won easily. Cruz is not an establishment republicrat.

Yes trump isn't doing well anywhere including Texas but I believe in November he will end up with all of Texas electoral votes.
