The Russians have been using the Kosovo situation as a precedent for their own proxy states, something the Serbs are probably not all that to happy about as it further legitimizes Kosovo's claim to independence.

And Russia did greatly support Serbia in the 90s, but so did Ukraine, many Ukrainians like Russians fought in Serb forces during those wars and now Russia is treating Ukraine the same way NATO treated Serbia. Probably something many Serbians does not appreciate either.

Wagner also recruited in Serbia which wasn't exactly legal and not at all appreciated by the Serbian government if I recall correctly.

Russias betrayal of Armenia and it's failure to keep Syria from falling also probably didn't do anything to keep Serbia's trust in Russia as an ally and friend from waning.

It's true Ukrainians also fought for the Croatian forces, not surprising at all considering, well Ukraine and how it is.
Ukrainians with the VRS often fly a bit under the radar though as they were often from Eastern Ukraine and thus usually had names in Russian and spoke Russian.
I have talked to Bosnian Croats and Bosniaks and they were a bit lukewarm about the current war in Ukraine beacuse of the Ukrainians that travelled to Bosnia to fight for the Serbs.

Ukrainians were also among the "Russians" that fought for the Yugoslavs in Kosovo.
