ABC On Biden’s Border Crisis: “Total Mayhem,” Dems “Growing Increasingly Frustrated” With Biden

It's really the progressives. Nothing Biden can do will satisfy them. You may remember they were angry that Obama was deporting more than anyone ever deported before .... or after.

The progressives want these potential immigrants to be allowed into the country and humanely held pending determinations. As Trump found out the hard way, the US const requires people receive certain rights when they acquiesce to be subject to our laws. These people naturally want those rights, and they are truly desperate. Trump's solution was ultimately to just not let them in, and that was the major change from Obama. If they snuck over the border, and were arrested, he tossed them back over, just like Obama did. Some made it across desert. Some died. And people stopped coming in such large numbers.

It seems akin to me like survivors in the water from a disaster and a ship putting over nets to let people climb to safety, but there are more nets than people. When the survivors come to endanger the ship, the crew has to cut the nets. There's nothing humane in that.

I suppose the progressives simply want to take everyone in who wants to come. Biden seems to essentially redoing the Obama strategy. Camps are set up in America. Adults are held till they can be given a court hearing. Children cannot be legally held, so they are transferred as quickly as possible to foster placements. And they will likely be here for life.

jmo, but despite Progressive claims to humane treatment, we have to have these folks camp out in Mexico or just stop coming. Maybe we need to pay Mexico.
There is only one way to stymie the immigration here: remove the advantages of doing so. Trump was actually doing that as well as the rhetoric that he pushed. Biden is not so the flow starts back up again. Trump was not addressing the core problems though and his strategy of making the trip far worse so the advantages seemed less enticing was a piss poor way to deal with immigration. The advantages need to be dealt with.

The immigration system cannot be fixed in its current form. It needs to be rebuilt if we want a real immigrations system.
Trump's Stay in Mexico program was the most effective program at controlling immigration that has been implemented in decades. Work on the wall should resume and the Stay in Mexico program should be reinstated.
Part of it.

I do not think that even that part of the program would have done anything without the rhetoric though. The largest difference IMHO, and it shocks me, is simply messaging. Trump made no bones a=bout it, illegal immigration would not be tolerated and the hard line they took in enforcement made it clear he was not joking. Biden basically announced they were not going to do anything so of course everyone thinks that is an open invitation.

Biden did put out an open invitation when he announced on national television that he was stopping the halt in immigration. They knew it was going to happen before the inauguration as the column had already started to move into Mexico from Central America where Mexico had temporarily halted it.

Been a lot of wailing about the border for the last 4 years, Its been a mess no matter who's been in charge.

Its another ”third rail” in politics.
Well yeah, but Lincoln didn't have 50% plus till his reelection and Reagan was running near 40% until the econ turned. But to do anything, someone will have to move the middle. Trump did not on DACA so the dems didn't compromise on his wall ... or anything else. If Biden can get 5 gop senators to accept some permanent status maybe he'll make the jump.
