Abbas: Mandela 'a symbol of liberation from colonialism, occupation'
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) --
" Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas declared a day of mourning Friday following the death of South African anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela, according to Palestinian media."
Abbas offered condolences to Nelson Mandela's family, to the people of South Africa, and he offered condolences to the world at large.
Abbas also ordered flags be lowered to half-mast across Palestine.
"Mandela was a brave man who supported the Palestinian people, Abbas said. He added that the story of Mandela's struggle against apartheid would remain ingrained in the memories of Palestinians and South Africans alike. A leader and a freedom fighter, Mandela was a symbol of liberation from colonialism and occupation for all people, Abbas said."

Nelson Mandela certainly lived a life that every Palestinian can seek to emulate.
He stood against Apartheid and kept taking his stands until Apartheid in South Africa fell.
He spent over 25 years in Apartheid prisons, so many imprisoned Palestinians can relate to this, who spent similar prison sentences in Israel's Apartheid prisons.
Nelson Mandela symbolizes the Reality that Israeli Apartheid in Palestine will ultimately fall, just as it did in South Africa.
