The question only reveals your own ignorance, not surprising since much of the Western media and all of the Trump-supporting media spread this particular lie.

There are many criticisms that can be made about China’s local Wuhan and central government response to Covid, and serious questions of whether it spread naturally or due to an accident at a research institute.

But what you say here is a long ago refuted example of FAKE NEWS. China banned international commercial flights out of Wuhan Airport at exactly the same time it ended all domestic flights out, and the very same morning passenger trains and public buses were suddenly prevented from leaving the city.

This was an extraordinary effort, and almost immediately private cars were added to the list, and then nearby cities, and then the whole province, but of course we know now that the virus had already spread around the world due to both its latent no-symptom contagious period and earlier delays in quickly recognizing and reacting to the danger. The sudden early morning lockdown of the city and of the airport came right before the Chinese New Year when millions were planning to travel (many had left early to beat the holiday rush) and it applied to ALL commercial domestic and international flights from Wuhan. It did not then, however, affect all cities in China.

Of course giant Wuhan needed medical help and food, and great efforts were made to send medical volunteers, emergency aid, and security forces. Much had to be flown quickly into Wuhan, often by military planes. There were ALSO SPECIAL CASES like the thousands of Americans and other Westerners trapped in the city. Special flights were arranged by the U.S. embassy itself and facilitated by Chinese authorities to safely evacuate Westerners from Wuhan and nearby cities.

This was all covered in newspapers at the time. I have heard this ignorant lie (specifying flights from Wuhan) repeated often by prominent Republican Congressman. It is typical inaccurate and transparent propaganda.

Not just “Democrats” have a responsibility to expose this sort of propaganda. ALL Americans should do so! But while doing so we must not forget that the Chinese Communist Party bureaucracy can be and is often tyrannical in imposing its extreme version of “public security.” The CCP local and central bureaucracies did apparently make OTHER serious mistakes in the very early period of the Covid epidemic.

Much later (when Xi kept his draconian lockdown on ALL China’s cities going much too long) we saw mass protests by Chinese citizens break out, which forced Xi to change direction suddenly. Indeed, had he not changed his policies so suddenly, we might have seen a true explosion of opposition.

And that is their (and every other country's) right to do so. Back when I lived in Texas and we had our nearly annual tropical storm/hurricane barrage, the State would often not allow people to travel into the areas affected by emergencies.

As for a nation telling thousands of non-citizens that they couldn't go home...it would require a special type of stupid to expect them to do so.

If you had been in China--working at a bank where Trump had an account-- at the time and were told you couldn't fly home to whatever red state ghetto you hide in...would you have stood for it? Nope.
