Nine months is a long time in politics, but the upcoming midterm elections portend great changes in Congress and, perhaps the Presidency itself. It is increasingly conceded that neither Joe Biden nor Kamala Harris is competent to lead the country through the end of their current terms of office, and a GOP-controlled House of Representatives will surely uncover enough misdoings to warrant impeachment. Sexual misconduct may not be enough to unseat a President, but blatant bribery and corruption are. And the last thing the Democrats want is to defend Biden's criminal record during a Senate trial. So what is to be done?
One option might be to have Biden resign due to "health" reasons. This would nominally leave Kamala in charge, but this could be resolved by her accepting a pretigious appointment or some other excuse. In her place, a "moderate" like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) could be agreed to by both Parties. This might require some Constitutional sleight-of-hand, but our history shows this is eminently doable.
Do you think this is a serious possibilty, or do you think some other scenario is more likely? Abandoning a sinking ship would be no fun for Democrats, but the alternative would be even less so.
