A perfect way to stimulate the economy and remove our dependence on foreign oil

As we know, we are $20 trillion in debt, and that debt will only climb higher. Our systematic deficit spending has dropped our credit rating, and monetizing the debt has ruined our currency.

The past and present Administrations believe there is no way we can get ourselves out of this financial mess without taxing our citizens and companies into the ground, damaging our economy even further. There is another way, one that will preserve our position as the world's first and only hyperpower, stimulate the economy in a profound way, and remove the threat of the Middle East to global security.

We must wage war on OPEC.

Why has nobody ever thought of this before? Our military IS NOT a global police force, despite what our recent Administrations have believed. It is an armed force to protect our liberty and interests, and to project our power throughout the globe.

If the operation is successful, we get at least $100 trillion in income from selling the captured oil. This can easily pay off our national debt, and the remainder can be distributed tax-free to the citizens.

Every individual would get around $270,000, which would help out a lot of families escape poverty, pay for a college education, start a business, etc.

We could first issue letters of marque and reprisal to our Navy, and take oil tankers sailing from OPEC countries as prizes. This will a) increase morale of our Sailors, as they stand to personally benefit from successful completion of their mission, b) boost our economy as the Sailors will spend their prize money when they return home, and c) weaken OPEC's economy.

Once OPEC's economy has been sufficiently weakened, we can blockade their ports, blitzkrieg them using our Marines, and send in the Army to occupy their oil fields while our oil companies take over extraction.

We have the largest and most capable armed forces in the world. We can do this easily. The few billion dollars spent on this operation will easily pay for itself more than a thousand times over.

We can count on Israel to assist us in the Middle Eastern theater, as with Iran firmly under US control, Palestinian terrorists will have no more support. Then proper peacemaking efforts between them can take place.

We must stop acting like Neville Chamberlain, and start acting like Julius Caesar.

It's still theft, by any name.

What's with this We?

We triumph Liberty here. Good will feeds that, not force. How many principles need to be abandoned here to achieve your goal? How is that Not Totalitarian?

We don't need to take their shit when we have plenty of our own...fracking is where it's at.

Imperial Rome did stuff like this all the time, as did Britain, France, Spain, etc. Why now do people get mad when someone suggests conquest?

Besides, we can make an offer, just like the Romans did, of citizenship, if they agree to surrender their resources. Who wouldn't want to have all the rights and privileges of citizenship?

Bad habits are hard to break. Still, it's worth it. If you want to play Global Domination, fine, just don't include me. Everything has a price, as in, a cost, intended and unintended.

Receiving the Mark of the Beast may grant Citizenship, in It's time. Is it worth the price?

The cost is we could lose men and we lose our international respectability. Imperial Rome is our model. Itwas fierce, what its non-allies wanted meant nothing to them, and it took whatever it wanted, and crushed revolts and external threats with overwhelming force. But it took good care of its citizens, and inside its borders was one of the safest and pacific places ever. Roman citizenship was highly-prized.

Who wouldn't want democracy and be free from a tyrannical dictator?

But I think we all know how that turned out

We let them have their self-rule in their internal affairs.

Look at all the infighting in South America and the Middle East. Subjugating them will bring peace.

There are many lessons the United States of America can learn from Imperial Rome.

Imperial Rome fell apart due to it becoming too big to effectively govern.

Rome was an Empiric Long Shift. When those Germanic pagans found the goodies, that was it.

All roads didn't lead to Rome anymore.

Or do you not know who is in charge of the conomy, who spend money we didn't have and who gave TRILLIONS to the BANKSTERS.

If you do not know what I am taking about.

Shut up, read some books and educate yourself.

These cocksuckers are ruinng your nation as well as mine, lad.

Stop acting like this is a partisan game and realize that this mess is a life and death problem for this nation and for all of us reading these words.

Are you by chance related to capt jack sparrow? lol

Ok I agree with pretty much everything you said in the first half of your post. the facts are all very accurate. but do we really have the right to go in and start taking? some of what you are talking about here amounts to acts of piracy. Not to mention other nations dependent on their oil are probably going to object

If we truly want to weaken OPECs economy we should do it by limiting our demand for foriegn oil through alternative sources. pushing for higher fuel consumption standards. we under use solar in this country. we should make an earnest effort to manufacture panels and perriferals in the country as well. of course other countries, like china, will still have a very high demand. but if you think back to the first time gas approached $5 and our economy collapsed, what happened? our oil consumption tanked. our usage dropped like a rock. all of a sudden OPEC nations were flooded with surplus and their income flood dropped off. so they lowered prices drastically. we need to take steps to reduce our demand

We should research renewable energy and ways to increase fuel-efficiency. Biodiesel is a pretty good alternative, and making a production version of the Crower six-stroke engine will allow less fuel to be used (and elimination of the radiator).

We could fund this by the taking of oil tanker prizes. $160 million/ship can fund a lot.

We sell the oil to our allies at a discount, while we sell to our enemies at a premium.

OPEC's economy will be crippled both by the physical loss of their export, and by oil becoming less valuable. We can also further their destruction by shorting their currencies.

They will have lost their merchant fleet, their major export will become far less valuable, and their ability to import necessary goods will be severely hindered.

Then we can just blitzkrieg them, and take their reserves.

Our main issue is paying off our national debt.

Imperial Rome fell apart due to it becoming too big to effectively govern.

Imperial Rome began in 27 BCE and ended for TSLexi's purposes in 235 CE. That gives it a run of just 262 years, not very long by Imperial standards, compared to the Byzantines, HRE, Franks, English, Spanish, Russians, or French; all of which survived and prospered for a considerably longer period. Hell, the Portuguese and Dutch had longer runs!

Still, its successors in terms of world conquest, Imperial Britain, Spain, the HRE, they were conquerors.

WTF happened to conquest is my question.

Also, never base your economy on exporting...if your main export is no longer wanted, i.e. oil if renewable energy ever gets off the ground in a large scale, you're up a creek without a paddle.
