The problem with the National Guard and/or the active duty military being called in for these kinds of situations is that the presence of the military is pretty toothless. Ever since the Kent State shooting incident 55 years ago, the military presence is mostly symbolic as the personnel are allowed no real power to intervene in any domestic situation. I'm pretty sure their gun chambers, if they even carry weapons, are empty.
We all saw the militant migrants overrunning the National Guard who were attempting to block their path at an El Paso check point.
For sure if the military was given actual authority to demand people doing looting, vandalism, arson, assault to disperse and, if they did, not to exercise whatever force, even lethal force, necessary to disperse them, the cries of fascism would echo across the land.
We all still have those terrible images of the deadly military clearing id Tiananmen Square in China, Peron's bloody clearing of protesters from the streets of Buenos Aires, etc. What U.S. leaders want to be associated with that kind of thing?
Newsom seems to be egging on the protesters. At a New Hampshire Democratic fundraiser, Illinois Gov.
JB Pritzker called for “mass protests,” stating Republicans “cannot know a moment of peace, , ,must be “castigated” and “punished,”. . .feel in their bones…that we will relegate their portraits to the museum halls reserved for tyrants and traitors.”
If the state leaders, police, courts etc. won't do their jobs, I think we're probably screwed.
