one might be forgiven for wondering how a once so high functioning civilization ever got to here.

how did we lose so many things that once we knew?

how did we lose critical thinking and critical assessment?

how did we trade quiet competence for cartoon-grade clownworld and place into positions of power plentitudes of post-peter principle poltroons?

and how, after having done so, did we watch everything wobble, fail, fall over, and ultimately catch fire and not lift a finger to stop it?

the signs were all there. it was obvious to anyone who was looking that danger was mounting in any one of a hundred spheres. the storm into which we are sailing (a storm of our own making no less) has been becoming clearly and obliviously darker and more dangerous. how on earth did the modal modern american response become “so fire anyone who knows how to drive a boat and replace them with someone who not only lacks such skill but who thinks that the most important aspect of seamanship is mermaid cosplay”?

how did we get this oblivious, this credulous, this insanely situationally unaware of the dangers from elevating actual anti-merit?

this seems like an important question and a question we should be asking because “get there” we have and the levels of interlocking and all encompassing incompetence around us are starting to build into failure cascades unlike anything the modern west has seen.

there are no systems to fall back on.

it’s all rot, rust, and ridiculousness.

Its racist to want competance ! your private parts and skin color matter the most !

Republican cuts to education in all forms.

Well that's it I'm voting progressive where you throw money at education ,promote horseshit ,and Americans are dumb as dog s*** just like you you low IQ f****** moron

How long have women and progressives been in charge of education 40 50 f****** years you f****** retard get off my thread you f****** idiot

The past 60 years crying over blacks, that then morphed into any "minority" who manages to get to America also gets preference, or that complains loudly enough

As Ann Coulter pointed out a while back, even if you could make the case for affirmative action, it should only have been applied to descendants of American slaves.

...
America altered constitutional provisions about freedom of association, private property and contract law — for the descendants of American slaves. Huge social welfare programs were established — for the descendants of American slaves. Affirmative action and racial quotas were imposed — for the descendants of American slaves. We agreed to virtually criminalize the use of certain words — for the descendants of American slaves.
Are you seeing the pattern? There’s no justification for special treatment for any ethnic group apart from victims of America’s history of slavery and Jim Crow.
But starting in the 1970s, parasites from around the world came in and announced, Here’s a new agenda for America — and it doesn’t include you, descendants of American slaves (DOAS).
Overnight, “DIVERSITY” became the new buzzword, and “integration” was flushed down the memory hole. Integration had been about redressing historic wrongs done to black Americans. By contrast, diversity means everyone gets special rights and privileges — everyone except white Americans.
Under our history and Constitution, racial preferences could only be justified by the legacy of slavery. But now race-based benefits are being dispensed in great heaping portions to Hmong, Somalis, Latin Americans and so on — including people who arrived last year.
What happened to, It all goes back to the Middle Passage! “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” the “triangular trade,” “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and We Shall Overcome!?
That’s been replaced with the demand that every organization in the nation, down to the lowliest bowling league, include Hispanics, Asians, disabled women, gays and so on.
And, as I keep pointing out to the DOAS: Immigrants are getting all the good “diversity” jobs. Look at the diversity administrators on college campuses. All immigrants, mostly Indians.
To take another example, MSNBC is very proud of its diverse lineup, meaning eight of its hosts are immigrants or the children of immigrants, but only four are descendants of American slaves — and they’re relegated to the weekend dead zone.
E.g.:
Jose Diaz-Balart — Cuban immigrant;
Ana Cabrera — second-generation Mexican immigrant;
Ayman Mohieddine — born in Egypt to Egyptian father and Palestinian mother;
Katie Phang, born to Korean immigrants;
Joy Reid — second-generation immigrant of Congolese and Guyanese descent;
Ali Velshi — Ismaili Muslim of Indian descent, immigrated from Canada;
Yasmin Vossoughian — second-generation Iranian immigrant;
Alex Wagner — mother is immigrant from Myanmar.
May we ask what historic injustice this country visited on the Congo? Korea? Iran? Myanmar? Immigrants weren’t dragged to our country against their will. They came here. But now they’re expropriating the black experience in America.

I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist but I was trained as an investigative reporter that has served me well in other employment over the years. But that training encouraged my natural curiosity along with critical thinking that causes me to take little at face value but look for the bigger story or extenuating circumstances or the non obvious factors.

And for some decades now I have seen an erosion in traditional American values that began with making God/Christianity unwelcome in the public schools and other of the public sphere and has expaneded into other areas from there And I can't shake the sense that it is a deliberate effort to break down our values and culture that was the glue that made America so strong and remake us into a Marxist society.

I hope I'm wrong but I've found nothing yet to make me reject that theory.

If I'm right, our only hope is the MAGA vision and the success of the new Congress an Administration to implement it.

Republicans love the uneducated.
Education, as it is today, just gives us a false sense of security (just ask the thousands of grads who are deeply in debt and can't find work in their field). Many 'advances' have been pretty destructive (ask the farmers in India).

The problem with education is that it focuses more on production than on maintenance. Production is fun, maintenance not so much.

Republicans love the uneducated.
Republicans love education that educates. They do not love processes called education that are in fact indoctrination that strongly discourage critical thinking and exploration of all ideas and concepts. The latter is largely what passes for public education these days.

As soon as the grad walks off the stage with the diploma human nature (which was temporarily suspended during matriculation) replaces the education he or she just received. :omg:

That's putting emphasis on the wrong course of learning, not learning itself.

Don't let the forum's poop fetishist hear that...According to him, gubmint edumacation has never been better! :poop:

I've seen absolutely no evidence of that.

Feel free to provide some.

If you can, that is.
The evidence is in their posts, initiatives, funding, comments, example.

But how about you show evidence that Republicans are opposed to education? You can't. You say Republicans love the uneducated. That is true and they demonstrate it by encouraging the uneducated to become educated.

The Democrats also love the uneducated and by the evidence of education system--actually it is an indoctrination system--they promote and produce they intend to keep them that way.

The OP already provided that evidence.

You still have provided none.
