The majority of the Texas flood tragedy could have been avoided if they had installed a warning system. It was suggested in 1917, but rejected as too expensive. Also, building children's camps near the river in an area known for flash floods has to rank up there in stupidity. Question is, now will they take measures to prevent a reoccurrence of this tragedy?

Reminds me of the idiocy of rebuilding New Orleans after Katrina. A city mostly under sea level, but we did it and we allowed it to stay knowing a massive flood will happen again at some point.

I lived in that area for many years. The ground cannot soak much water, and there are no mountains/valleys. When it rains hard it will flood everywhere.

That river rose 26’ in under an hour. There is just no way word can get out that quickly.

When we are poor enough, parts of this nation are going to look like an apocalypse as we will afford to repair and renovate due to the costs.

Camp Mystic was established in 1926.

99 years is a pretty good run.

The levees need to be heightened.

But, you know, the Right says sea levels aren't rising..

These tragedies will continue forever and a day.
