Red State! Amen.
When President Trump made his petty Truth Social post about the loss of Rob Reiner, many of us on the political right swiftly commented on the Trump post. We were critical of what he said. We even agreed with some of our liberal fellow Board members about the inappropriateness of using that murder as a tool to make self-congratulatory statements about himself.

I’ve pondered that a couple of times since then.

Everything I knew about Rob Reiner (not including his politics) and about his love of film and of people in general made me think that he was almost certainly a good guy. And my revulsion at his politics and political commentary didn’t change that conclusion

Then, just a few moments ago, I saw an article about James Woods. I love what he had to say about the nasty anti-Reiner commentary.

So, I thought I’d share it. *

*Finally, many of us are familiar with the almost immediate dark humor often shared with society by the Wall Street types. I saw a truly awful meme along those lines just a day or two ago. It was real dark. But, truth be told, I laughed at it and even shared it with some folks. (I’m no freakin’ saint.)
Nonetheless, I commend James Woods’ view about this, without reservation.

When happened with Reiner is a tragedy but not for one moment should anyone think he was some dyed in the wool saint. His past is out there also and some of it isn't pretty

Variety?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....................

.

I voted for Trump to keep Kamala and Hillary out of office.
That mission was accomplished.
The border? A good start.

Now it would be nice if Trump practices a little STFU and concentrate on the debt problem and less worldwide saber rattling.

I'm in full agreement.

.

Like my T-shirt says:

"Mean Tweets and $1.96 gas."

Don't care about anything else.

People know little about Reiner.

.

Lol

Not a regular read of mine. It was simply on a list of clickbait type material so, since it was about Woods, I chose to read it.
.

I'll reiterate.

If all you know about Reiner is what Variety wants you to know, oh well.

I agree.

I didn't have much use for Reiner to be honest. But the man knew his craft.

I often allow My bias against the left color My view of the people who follow that ideology and in truth, I used to just to disagree politically.

Some of My 'they're morally bankrupt' attitude is driven by this forum.

I need to get back to the place in my mind where I can find your politics abhorrent but not think of you as absolute filth.

Don't get me wrong, some of them are absolute filth, but not all of them.

That is why I'm giving serious thought to giving thie forum a pass for a year or two and go enjoy my hobbies and forget this place.

Great post.

Yes, while he exhibited care for some, his abject hatred of Trump was undeniable. When someone hates so deeply it affects others even though they may not be the target. Outward hatred has a way of making violence acceptable. Perhaps some of that hatred rubbed of on his mentally ill son. Karma has a way of slapping you in the face.

After Reiner's death, an interview of his started circling the internet. They had asked him about Charlie Kirk's death. The article in the OP references this interview. I recommend watching it. It's short. Here's the video:

Donald Trump's comments about Reiner were absolutely terrible. If Reiner can speak this way about Kirk after his passing, a man that he does not agree with politically, then why can't the President of the United States show an ounce of class or civility?

The Meathead called President Trump a "nazi", which helped to fire up soft headed libs, who almost took out the Trumpster.

Although a bit outspoken, Trump wasn't speaking out of turn at all, considering who he was commenting about.

More righties crying about a mean tweet.

It’s kinda of pathetic when the other side wants to kill us and celebrates when they do.

Trump will never 'STFU' it's not his style. Trump is not 'saber rattling' he is waging economic war on those who have been ripping US off. Trump is stopping the drug boats and seizing illegal dark tankers who unlawfully fly fake flags. Bottom line, Maduro will be starved of illegal money which will eventually cause him to be overthrown. Then Venezuela can have a President they actually voted for.

Woods' comments carry no meaning.
  • Reiner saved Woods' career by his own admission.
  • Reiner never called Woods a dictator, a tyrant, and an evil akin to Adolf Hitler.
But had Woods been vocal about his support of Trump on Reiner's movie, I bet he wouldn't have been so nice to Woods.

If I had Reiner barking up my tree 24-7 ripping on me, trying to do a TV docu-series on what a terrible man I was, I would say bad things about Reiner too.

Woods gave his views how Reiner affected his life and Trump gave his view on how Reiner was in his life. I want truth, not flowery prose. 60 Minutes did a show on Reiner's wonderful life tonight. I'd bet they did not go into some of the many horrible things Reiner said about Trump.

Reiterating it doesn’t help. It didn’t make sense the first time.

Who is it who you imagine “knows” anything from Variety?

Really? That’s what you gathered from reading my OP?

🙄
