We planned and prepared for that for a couple of years and spent what would be billions in today's money to do it.

Not really apples to apples here.

Still I have to admit I would rather work with older equipment in my field than with the newer equipment. I find that the digital measuring instrumentation fails quite frequently.... Where as the old analog gauges lasted for years and years before needing replacement or even tuning.
