Here in the great state of Indiana a State issued photo ID is the very reasonable price of $0.00... Who can't afford that...
For the last 2+ years I have lived in Arizona. My DL was something like $16 or so. The cost wasn't prohibitive for me in my financial position but for others it could mean skimping on food for a number of days or other absurd impositions like finding transportation or coming up with $20-50 or even more for a new marriage certificate with both maiden and married name for women. For me, getting that new AZ DL was a huge ordeal.
Armed with an unexpired enhanced WA State DL, a military ID with an INDEF expiration, a VA enrollment card, a DD214 and certified birth certificate, I was denied even entry into the line for a ******* AZ DL because that wasn't valid ID they claimed, even though I had three valid photo ID's on their "A" list and five valid ID's on their "B" list and needing only ONE (1) for each! Outraged, I called my State Senators Office and threatened to go to the media, local and national, if this wasn't remedied.
Long story short, when approached, I mentioned my name, and a AZ DMV honcho's name who had called me back when I returned to the DMV office the next week, I was in and out in no time at all with my new AZ DL and registered to vote with the same ******* ID I'd had twice before but was rejected as invalid. There are all kinds of ways to keep minorities, the young and the older folks from voting in Red States. I experienced it! Voter ID law's are nothing but a solution for a non-existent problem designed to restrict and limit the vote of certain demographic groups! Any protestation to the contrary, notwithstanding!
