You sure don't make a very good case for the current GOP. All of these are when capitalism is not checked enough. In the 70s and back, any company that would have contributed to any of this would have had the heads chopped off and sent to prison.
By the time Reagan came along, the damage was already done by ignoring the problem. If the same situations had come up under Ike or Harry, there would have been some serious repercussions not just fines and reparations. Today, it's cheaper to buy off the government and pay the fines than it is to fix the problems where the public would be safe and things would be much fairer to all.
