About 20,000 Internal Revenue Service employees have expressed interest in accepting the Trump administration’s latest deferred resignation offer.

The IRS would shrink by about 20% if all of those staffers ultimately take the buyout offer.

The Treasury Department said the number of IRS employees leaving under President Donald Trump is “approximately the same” as the number added to the agency under former President Joe Biden.

The Federal News Network, citing an internal document, on Tuesday reported that the IRS plans to cut up to 40% of its workforce by the time its reduction-in-force efforts are complete.

Roughly 12,000 IRS staffers and probationary employees have resigned or been laid off since January, according to The New York Times, which reported on the resignation offer earlier Tuesday.

It was unclear when the agency would follow up with the employees who are interested in resigning, according to the source who spoke to CNBC. The source spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an internal matter.

But, but, but, Mah Refund!

My sources tell me (well, the wife) that a lot of people are already gone and more are leaving, a bunch in September.

The compliance group for individual filers is basically a skeleton crew and they aren't pushing audits for individual filers.......So, we should be very happy. :)

This, this is the way forward.
Musk has people for algorithms to lean it all out.
The tax code needs simplified, too.
It's past retarded level of bloat.

There was a time in American history with tax collectors were tarred and feathered. We need to bring that back.

So what about all the millions of bullets Obama and Biden had the IRS buy?
Causing bullet shortages n stuff like that. :/
Oh yeah, they armed the IRS bigtime. Bought 'em all guns and bullets.
On taxpayer dime, ofc

Good luck getting your return done in a timely manner

And if you want to protest a finding?

Having worked for the Feds for 8 years, I have no doubt that the agency could lose a significant percentage of its total payroll and still function adequately. Most of the real work is done by computers.

The question is, how are the decisions being made about whom to remove? Is there any intelligence in it, or is it random, in which case the results might be less than ideal.

No humans process routine tax returns and their associated refunds. If you are an outlier you might be delayed for a bit.

There is a backlash issue when government employees are laid off. Those who remain will often make things worse than necessary, simply out of resentment. This shows up in National Parks, museums, and such. Not really avoidable.

Obama thought a citizen militia
Meant
100k IRS heavily armed was his,
Not for the right reasons.

Lunatic mayor from Chicago wanted the national guard to fight the police.

Saul Alinsky
hasn't fallen far from the Democrats' tree.

IRS agents are on the side of the American people

They keep tac cheats in check

Every IRS agent is worth their weight in gold.
The wealthy have an army of high paid tax attorneys and accountants.

All we have is our IRS agents that republicans are slashing

The dirty little secret is that these IRS employees are office drones and the IRS will probably run more efficiently without them.

Actually, they are the ones who do the legwork to process our taxes.
They are indispensabile
