KEARNS — A woman was killed Tuesday night in what police said was a murder-suicide in Kearns. The woman’s adult children were also seriously injured in the incident, according to the Unified Police Department.
The man who fired shots was identified by police Tuesday as Floyd Allred, 65.
Sgt. Aymee Race with UPD said Allred’s wife, Kaylene Allred, 61, made an emergency domestic violence call, leading officers to a home near the corner of 5950 South and Scorpio Drive at 10:27 p.m. Monday.
Race said officers heard multiple gunshots go off as they arrived, while Kaylene Allred was still on the phone with dispatch. She told dispatch that people had been shot inside.
A minute later, Race said, additional shots were heard, and Kaylene Allred stopped responding.
Kaylene Allred’s adult children, a son and daughter, came out of the home minutes later, telling officers they had been shot. They were rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Officers entered the home to find Floyd and Kaylene Allred had both died of gunshot wounds. Race said police believe Floyd Allred fired shots at the children and his wife before turning the gun on himself.
By Tuesday afternoon, Kaylene Allred’s children were both stable.
Race said officers from West Valley City, West Jordan and the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrived to help with drones and other security during the incident.
“The 911 dispatchers who have to take these calls and unfortunately hear this happen is very tough on the first responders so, tremendous efforts,” Race said. “But again, our primary focus is those who were involved and those who lost their lives in this situation.”
Damn if you want to die just kill yourself, why do folks have to kill everyone else first.
Gun violence seems to be on the rise in this country.
