Wonderland Murders 1981 piece/editorial

The Wonderland Murders of 1981 in California was a death-note for the burgeoning pornography arts/entertainment market 'universe' and pronounced a dark reading for (American) forays into liberal lifestyle representations in cinema and storytelling, and it arguably was parallel to the scar of '60s counter-culture ornamentation/ideology momentum created by the stark-Realism of the Vietnam War (horror/regrets). These '81 murders came on the heels of the meteoric rise of a very unusual/precocious porn-actor/star/celebrity (John Holmes) whose seedy/unknown ties to an underworld-gossiped LA club-owner and stern 'hospitality-man' (Eddie Nash) may've linked directly to a group of very grisly home-invasion murders in a place called Wonderland Ave.

Sure, pornography rise was like the rise of sci-fi and horror and Hitchcock shock-cinema for experimentations of loud/graphic forms of anti-or-surreal Realism for lifestyle inferences/intuition; and John Holmes was at the epicenter of the porn-market in America and had become a glitter-prince given his precocious posture/stance as one of its greatest genre-surfacing showmen. The '81 grisly-murders at Wonderland Ave. was therefore something of an American record of things of metaphysics/circus demise for the flowery of arts and the inevitable cynicism that came with it. Apparently, as reports/stories went, someone on the inside-circle of the residents/party-goers/musketeers at Wonderland Ave. allowed some hitmen sent by a vengeance-prone Eddie Nash left the front-door lock open, enabling a horrific night of attacks resulting in news-covered deaths.

Sure, America has seen lots of 'weird' news and stories in its history, like graphic goings of the Civil War or the Kent State student tragedy and then 9/11 in the modern era. However, 'Wonderland' was to many fans of cinema/arts/circus/entertainment writing and criticism a deep-Realism heartbreak for the qualia of Earthling fascination with flowery-of-Zeitgeist. What happened? Is there a dark pendulum that swings to make any movement in culture/trend a required Realism endurance for the Ego? The Wonderland-'81 horror was certainly one such swing anti-vote for populism/humanism cheers or expansions. I remember reading Dreiser's searing work on the inevitable 'frailty' of the American Dream (An American Tragedy) in high-school and later learning of 'Wonderland' and now felt this Summer-'25 compulsion to offer-up a special essay-note on its Jabberwocky qualia (for comment/superstition!).
