You are correct as far as you go ... but my claim was that QM dismisses singularities ... supposedly nothing can be smaller than 1 Planck length ... that's given as 1.616255(18)×10^−35 m ...

The universe isn't smooth at her smallest scales ... like dicing or the Periodic Table ... there's no "in between" values ... can't roll an 8.4 or have Element # 42.751 ...

Just repeating what I hear on the construction site ...
QM does not 'dismiss' singularities so much as redefine them. Since both time and space began at the big bang I don't know that Planck length or Planck time were factors before the BB.

There is certainly no natural Element # 42.751 but in the future, who knows? If we custom build elements with quarks we may make Element # 42.333333 or Element # 42.666666.

You've kinda switch up your logic ... are we taking about AT the Big Bang ... or BEFORE the Big Bang ...

For something to happen at time = 0 ... time must pass or it doesn't happen ... the question is whether we have to jump immediately to "Planck Time Unit" 1 ... or is there a smooth transition with values of time less than a Planck Time Unit? ... same question for length ...

I certainly don't have the answers and I doubt anyone does. Yet.

It makes sense that is space is quantized, time is quantized too. Plack length and Planck time go hand in hand. 10^-42 seconds is a tiny increment, not one that we can measure anytime soon. More than 20 orders of magnitude separate us from that measurement right now. The law of large numbers will therefore make everything "seem" smooth to us, and "look" smooth to our measuring devices.

But we already know that for example, electrons don't "orbit" the nucleus. Orbitals are probability densities, nothing more. At that scale we can't measure, we can only infer. The next big leap is figuring out entanglement I'm thinkin it'll take a while.

We have clean water here in Jefferson ... clean as can be imagined ... best beer ... best wine ...

It's the water ...

You don't have this.

Did you know Wisconsin is one of the most polluted states in the Union ... "Double Trouble: Wisconsin's Land and Water are Inundated with Pollution from Animal Manure and Excess Farm Fertilizer" ... that's not water they're using ... it's cow pee ... or worse ...

Our brewers use mountain fresh spring water piped in straight from the roots of the Cascade Mountains ... no sewage, no farms, no fields ... just forests and empty wilderness ... although rare, we have a few spring pools where the water is so pure it won't sustain life ... it's not until after the first cascade before enough atmospheric gases dissolve to provide for the algae ...

Just more evidence that we are unable or unwilling to do anything the right way. :dev3:

Stop eating meat ... the pollution comes from feed lot after feed lot across the Upper Plains ... feeding the Great American Glut ... we want Whoppers RIGHT NOW ...

If we think of Iowa as one giant corn field ... well most all that corn is for animals ... pigs, cows, chickens ... very little food for human consumption ... just a waste ... just because we can afford to eat two servings of meat each of four meals a day doesn't mean we should ...

There are ways to it right without throwing the baby out with the wash water.

I'm sorry ... it's the liberal in me that makes me want to tell you how to run your life ...
No need, I'm managing pretty well by myself. :)

Average meat consumption per person annually, 223 lbs.
Woodznutz's annual meat consumption, 50 lbs.
I'm not the problem.

Wrong interpretation: It could exist something what's smaller than a Planck-length or what's shorter than a Planck-time. But our theories are not able to say anything about. So perhaps the universe is smooth at her smallest scales. We don't know.
