  • Tallahassee Florida! Im really kinda bumming. Im just not that excited about it. Im going to be doing my best to get my butt back out here ASAP!!!!!!!
i cant believe how alike you and my son are..he hates water things...has the outdoor rec degree with a climbing rating from one school...i never can keep it all straight...the river rats go to florida for their big trip...no biggie...just float down the glades..smoke and laugh....yet he still wouldnt do it...so far he has only had to do one small rescue..the kid broke both ankles and one wrist...they had to carry him out..and take him to er...just a couple of kids they ran across while they were climbing...
lol@ at you two and the climbing degrees...i still cant believe you can get a degree in climbing...call it outdoor rec but people were either climbers or river rats...and they never crossed from one to the other...do you go caving? he refuses to enter a cave
no that didnt help...i know all this...he said it would take a full investigation which would take weeks...i am always amazed at how professional he sounds...you sound that way too...i dont see one person pulling the other over the edge...the top person would still be anchored....but then i underestimate how stupid people can be
o shit talked to son today....mentioned the two climbers dying in fall...ask how could two die at once like that...without missing a beat...anchor failure...why does he torture me?

o climbers hate sport repellers...we give yall a bad name blah blah blah....i loved it...but i got where i wanted to wear gloves to go fast and drop more...i was burning my hands...man got all manny on me....pissy about it...said i either slowed own or stopped....how could he make me stop? i dont have the confidence to do my own anchors and all...i never took that first step..till he checked everything twice normally...i remember lynn hill's mistep...once he got pissy...i had to quit...he use to joke about how easy it would be to get shed of me...
i see the climbing mag ...i read it sometimes...and i did make it thru....touching the void...book and movie...i am not a pollyanna in blue jeans....i realize the risk..but would there be the rush without it?
did i mention...i was into repelling...the first step is such a rush...
i wished they were both in bell jars but that is life...i guess part of the problem is my house is the place to come in this area when you are here from a different area..when the dog has chewed a fly at rogers, in wva and you need it overnight...so on and so on...sick come here....i will make sure you are taking the right meds at the right times..when they do stupid things...and need help they call me...lol..
so i tend to get real motherly on people...no death talk yall are professionals well trained and climb safely...do you wear a helmet?
okay rules: you do not talk about dying....i know all too well the risks...we had a kid die on shiprock about a year and half ago...there was talk of partner error...but it just turned out to be....both of them were in over their heads...

did i mention the hubby is a retired hang glider? now that is a rare thing...

i need to get me an account type...this life in the risky lane is taking its toll and i just watch...
i am fussing at you....its an old school thing...you die with your partner ..so of course we sneer at the new school "every man for themself" attitude...and i know its really not that...but that no one could support the dead weight of a partner...he did try....i will give him that..he tried his damness to hang up ...not knowing ....if yates was already dead or dying...and when he talks about realizing he would have to tell yates mother what he had done....you can feel the viseral reaction to that...even yates says simpson did the right thing...and has no hard feelings over it...but then yates proved to be a better man than 99% of men....what he did was friggin amazing...i would have just froze to death...hypothermia is an easy death..so they tell me ..(dont ask who the **** they is...i am never sure)
son will chop a bolt in a heartbeat..he does use chalk...he is still at the stage where guiding is fun and he enjoys it most of the time...i read the book...into the void...i read most of the climbing books and mags they bring in...except the one about people dying on mtns...i decided to pass that one up...

i am still of the mind....you never cut the rope....son says i am wrong it was all he could do...
whatever became of the dude with no feet? lost them climbing to frostbite....are ethics a big debate out west? i still curse the day i read and saw the dvd....o hell the name of it...we all know the one of which i speak....he cuts the rope...into the void..thats it....that caused fights here for months
ahh you know mothers...we never think yall can do stuff...he changed his mind bout moving to wv to guide..i was shocked by that..figured he was gone to the wilds of wv..and them wild ass women...plus another guide called and ask him to move in with him..rent 75 a month...but he is staying here...i think he likes the fact that he is moving up in the ranks of the guides..and starting at the bottom doesnt appeal to him...plus i told him not to make a fun place into a job...

when do you start back fully? how is the leg holding up?
o look at you showing off your rack..son got a hold board..i was playing on it...read: i could lift one foot....two and i fell right off..they were doing this with their fingers...climbing season is about to begin here...so son is happy...he got his medical stuff renewed last month...i am always taken back that they let him run that heart defib thing....he says the computer does all the work..i hope so
