  • Thank you so much SB. I really appreciate it. +44!!!! I am moving to Tallahassee & it mostly has to do with money. It is really expensive in Colorado but its kinda worth it. Unfortunately, our current situation is making it difficult to afford it. Im hoping that we will get to come back soon. I guess when the market gets better.

10 acres with no flat areas, I bet you get your exercise!
we have 10 acres...with no flat spots....no we have a lower and upper garden..its a lot to take care of ...where are you moving in florida and why?
wow! how much property do you have. Im fixin to move to Florida & the yard at the house Im moving to desperately needs alot of work. How big is your garden? & a dental cap!? ouch! sounds like that hurts!
Luckily I have never done a rescue (other than rescuing myself). I fell a few years back and broke my ankle badly. My best friend and climbing partner and I had been training and climbing all Spring and Summer getting ready to climb the Diamond on Longs Peak. We were ready and just waiting for good weather. I was out sport climbing with another friend when I took a long leader fall and hit my foot on the way down. My best friend wasn't even there, but was so badly affected by it and shook up (we had been invinvible till the moment of my injury) that he still doesn't climb as well as he did then. Neither do I, but I hope the 2 months I spend in Joshua Tree this upcoming fall will get me back to that level. Anyway, the point is, experiencing an accident can really shake a climber up, and many have quit after either being part of an accident, witnessing the accident, or helping afterwards.
i cant believe how alike you and my son are..he hates water things...has the outdoor rec degree with a climbing rating from one school...i never can keep it all straight...the river rats go to florida for their big trip...no biggie...just float down the glades..smoke and laugh....yet he still wouldnt do it...so far he has only had to do one small rescue..the kid broke both ankles and one wrist...they had to carry him out..and take him to er...just a couple of kids they ran across while they were climbing...
Well, yes, I have a degree in Outdoor Recreation Leadership, not in climbing. I would be into spelunking, but Colorado is suprisingly devoid of caves. There are many rivers for rafting and its a big part of the tourist industry here, but I hate, HATE, cold water. I'm a huge wimp about cold water. And water in Colorado is COLD!
I worked as a guide and actually went to school for it: Colorado Mountain College based out of Leadville; and I take climbing very seriously which might lend that air of professionalism you sense to my demeanor, at least when it comes to climbing. Inexperienced climbers tend to walk to the tops of cliffs to make an anchor with which to top rope a climb because they haven't yet learned or become experienced enough to lead climb the route (where there is a chance of falling). If that's what these two were doing, they might not have built the anchor and clipped into it yet when they fell. That would be my guess.
It sounds like, from the story, that both died falling from the top. They might've slipped, which seems more likely than anchor failure. One might've slipped, lost her balance, and grabbed the other and both fell. Without reading the story I would've guessed anchor failure. Maybe this will help, maybe not: statistically, you're far more likely to die in a car accident to or from the climbing area than you are actually climbing.
This is the idiot checking in. Jeez I need to watch that second coffee in the morning....
It's a normal raction when you see that red I guess, but as you told me the last time, who cares. :)
The fishing was just outstanding on Saturday. Dropped a line at 6:00am, had 4 trout by 8:00am. Released everything after that, probably over 20 fish.
Sunday was an exercise in frustration. I couldn't catch a fish to save my life. I was using the exact same bait/lures the guy 10 feet from was using. We were casting into the same spot, and he was reeling them in right and left. I couldn't even get a strike.
He was just as amazed by it as I was.
Okay, I don't do facebook either. I have a myspace account, many many message board accounts, and a few websites of my own. Facebook is something I've never seen the need for, superfluous if you have myspace IMO. I'm not big into social networking.
