When the dean called my editor to complain, he wanted to know my name and have a talk with me and have me write another story that showed that the students were not poorly informed yahoos that they appeared to be. My editor refused to give out my name (which is good, I was a student at the school...this dean called me in when I entered the school because my GED score was the highest he had ever seen, aside from his son, who had the same score, and was a student at MIT! I didn't want him to be MAD at me!) At the time I was also writing for the school paper, it was a really funny little episode. Over in a flash, but a memory that lasts forever! And I sort of feel bad for making the school look bad, even now. The ten kids I spoke to I'm sure weren't representative of the entire student body...or WERE they?
