I was trained on the "wilderness" defibrillator and its true, you just turn it on, push the button, put the pads on the victim, and it does the rest. Its just knowing when to use it and when not to that's the trick. You don't use it when someone's heart has already stopped beating, because that is what the defib does is stop the heart. But if someone's heart beat is erratic or if the heart is spasming (such as subsequent to a heart attack) then CPR won't help until the heart has been stopped. So all those movies you see when they use the defib to bring someone back are untrue. After you use the defib, you do CPR, and then, maybe, you save a life...
