I put away each month for my kids, but the way college is increasing I am not sure it will cover it. However, your idea of going elsewhere for college doesn't sit well with me. The best 4 years of my life were in college. I know I should have been there to learn, but too many parties, too much alcohol and too many easy young girls, not too mention I had a six pack back then! I don't want my kids to miss out on the college experience.
There is no good way at this point! First, college is so expense, private lenders wouldn't pick up the slack. Second, the bigger problem happened when Clinton administration made student loans non-dischargable! They gave student loans away like candy at that point and Fed backed them.
My opinion is the Fed should deal directly with the school and student loans should go SOLELY to tuition and not a dollar above it! School tuition should be LOCKED day one and not increase until the end of graduation! That for starters!
