Since Austin's liberal policy on homeless camping went into effect on July 1, the big question is how much of an impact would it really have? Was the issue overblown? Would Austin residents see homeless camps pop up all over town or not? And would Austin, woke and weird capital that it is, object to it all?

The results are in and growing. And if Los Angeles is any guide, they are urgent. Mayor Steve Adler recently traveled to L.A. to "learn" how to handle homelessness from the Democrat-run city. Austin and L.A. both have permissive camping policies.

Well, L.A. now has a major rat problem.

An ever-growing number of rodents in California -- particularly in Los Angeles -- is being fueled by a spiking homeless population and restrictions on rodenticides that are risking a public health crisis, according to a study released Tuesday.

--

Rodent's can carry dangerous diseases such as typhus, plague and salmonella, in addition to their roles contributing to asthma.

Is this Austin's future now?

The camps and lawlessness are becoming a visible part of the Austin landscape all over the city. Austinites are posting photos on Twitter to alert Mayor Steve Adler — and the media, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, and each other — as they see new camps or campers.

I wonder how many people like this are out there? #atxcouncil homeless policy has noticeably activated people (like Cleo below), who say they've voted Democrat for years and are digesting the idea of supporting GOP Gov. @GregAbbott_TX on this issue. @KXAN_News #txlege

Austin is an enclave of trust fund babies, wealthy real estate peddlers, tech geeks, and a university town where rich kids come to party and never leave, or grow up. Like most Burb Brat 'progressives', they want lots of big spenders to buy their crappy little arts and crafts scams, and while they love to pat themselves on the back for how 'enlightened', 'tolerant', and 'Diverse' they are when posturing for each other, when it comes to actually interacting with the poor and downtrodden, or even actual proles, they go to pieces and demand police remove such ilk from their neighborhoods. This isn't new; Katherine Graham and Califano were huge fans of race riots egging them on everywhere, until those uppity Negroes had the gall to riot in Washington D.C.; then they ran to Nixon and demanded he declare martial law and shoot them down, threatening to fall down hold their breath and turn blue if he didn't. They're complete phonies; 'progressive' politics is all about fashion, not real actions.

This is insane. They just passed the law 20 days ago. A unanimous decision. Now they don't like it. What did they think was going to happen.

yes we know you are a brainwashed functional moron. Maybe we could have a reasonable low income housing policy and mental health policy if we could get rid of the lying brainwashing scumbag GOP and actually tax the rich their fair share...

I live near that shit hole. The rat problem is already incredible. Near HWY 360 and 2244 there isn't even a camp, but an area where the bums beg. The trash piles up there and the corner is infested with rats. It's an otherwise rich suburban neighborhood. The reckoning for the left is coming soon. Every city they manage becomes a shit hole. Texans many not just sit by while the capital of our state decends into San Fransicko however. We may have to force our state to disband the city government, take over it's functions, then throw pieces of shit like Gregorio Ceasar in prison for official oppression.

Austin should worry. Fleas are a major problem in Texas, and they could carry Yersinia pestis (Bubonic Plague) with contact with a mammal who contracted the disease.

Over 80% of United States plague cases have been the bubonic form. In recent decades, an average of seven human plague cases have been reported each year (range: 1–17 cases per year). Plague has occurred in people of all ages (infants up to age 96), though 50%of cases occur in people ages 12–45. : Maps and Statistics | Plague | CDC

Since the mid–20th century, plague in the United States has typically occurred in the rural West. The case shown in Illinois was lab-associated.

For a portion of the homeless in the US, the ACLU can definitely be blamed. The institutionalized mentally-ill were cast out of mental institutions because the ACLU forced the institutions to free those individuals who had been committed to them. Those tossed out were incapable of holding down a job and thus couldn't pay for housing. Others are long-term drug addicts. When out and about, I regularly pass by people who are clearly suffering from long-term drug abuse psychopathy. Others are schizophrenics that aren't on meds or the meds they do receive aren't working due to the individuals severe condition. Then, there's a portion that actually want to stay on the street and have admitted it. They prefer being "off-the-grid." Then, there's the criminal-on-the-move element. They know the law is looking for them and aren't about to settle into a residence. Getting the severely mentally-ill back into well maintained institutions would alleviate some of the problem. As for the drug addicts, I'm not that sympathetic. 1. They knew the substance was illegal when they bought it and didn't care. 2. They knew that the substance was addictive and didn't care. So, I have little empathy towards them. Turning some old abandoned warehouses into cheap housing with group showers and four beds per cubicle, would help somewhat. Also, find out if any are illegal migrants. That can be solved by simply sending them back to their point of origin.

Wow, that was really good, even though it probably has no chance of penetrating all those small minds down in Austin. Maybe the bottom line is that liberals like the smell of poop and decaying garbage.

This is insane. They just passed the law 20 days ago. A unanimous decision. Now they don't like it. What did they think was going to happen.

The real question is, Will the residents of Austin get a clue and vote out the current batch of politicians who came up with this crazy policy?

Some people keep voting for Democrats even when they are being harmed by Democratic policies and even when they see their city or town falling apart because of those policies.

A Pew survey found that 94% of illegal adult males work, 65% pay taxes, + 35% own homes thanks to the GOP inviting them in 4 years and years. The wall is stupid we need an ID card to end illegal immigration like other countries with this problem, super duper.
