Would Alvin Lee, of 10 Years After fall into this group? His version of "Going home" was bad.
Alvin Lee was ahead of his time but one of the best? I wouldn't put him on my top 10 list.

well that is just your opinion.....Hammett places higher on every "BEST" guitar player poll i have ever seen.....as a matter of fact, many times, so does Megadeth's REAL lead guitarist...Marty Friedman.....just sayin....
So does Hendrix... means nothing.. Hendrix was different... not as technically proficient as his fans would lead you to believe.. not as compositional, as most of it is drug induced mindless shit.. the guy had some memorable work... but not the all around guitar god most put him out to be
I'd put Ace Frehley, Dimebag Darrell, and KK Downing above Hammet.. and those are in no way guitar gods
You're lucky I rep'd you for the Mustaine post or I'd be neg repping your ass for this Hendrix dis.
Every good riff Jimmy Page ever played is a Hendrix rip-off.

I like Megadeth and Dave Mustaine, but imo, Hammett pwns Mustaine.
Also, I knew I would forget somebody, and can't believe I didn't put David Gilmour in my post.

and frigging BUCKETHEAD is a DAM good player
No love for Esteban ?

lotta good players out there. the thing is one has to juxtapose the player/era with the evolution of the instrument itself
for instance, certain techniques like hammerons were virtually unheard of back when because few , if any, axes were set up tight enough to accomodate them
floyd rose locking systems were nonexistent for those neat dive bombs heard now
