YellowStone River Freight Train Collapse.... hazardous material warning

How does this happen? We've so far had two big infrastructure bills and neither has obviously been put to good use.

Well, considering that last year the river was swollen due to flooding, and this year the river is still at high levels, I'd say that the problem came from unusual erosion on the bridge due to the higher river levels.

And, considering that the bridge is in some pretty remote territory, that may also be a factor as to why it wasn't checked yet to see if there was any damage.

As far as hazardous materials? They took measures due to "potentially hazardous materials". The train was carrying sulfur and asphalt.

COLUMBUS, Mont. -- A bridge that crosses the Yellowstone River in Montana collapsed early Saturday, plunging portions of a freight train carrying hazardous materials into the rushing water below.

The train cars were carrying asphalt and sulfur, said David Stamey, Stillwater County’s chief of emergency services. Officials shut down drinking water intakes downstream while they evaluated the danger. An Associated Press reporter witnessed a yellow substance coming out of some of the tank cars.

However, Stamey said there was no immediate danger for the crews working at the site, and the hazardous material was being diluted by the swollen river. There were eight rail cars in the river or on the part of the bridge that collapsed.

In neighboring Yellowstone County, officials said they instituted emergency measures at water treatment plants due to the “potential hazmat spill” and asked residents to conserve water.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation. The river was swollen with recent heavy rains, but it's unclear whether that was a factor.

The Montana Disaster Emergency Services has been notified. Federal Railroad Administration officials were at the scene.

So, there are officials already on the scene, the crews working there aren't in any danger from the material which is being diluted by the water, and it looks like the bridge may have become eroded from the flooding that has been happening in the area since last year.

wheres Bidens Build back better money going ?

Well, considering that the bridge is in a remote area, as well as that the floods have only been going on since last year, they probably hadn't sent out an inspector to check on the status of the bridge. There are LOTS of railroad bridges out there, and many of them are in remote areas. It takes a bit of time to go and inspect them.

What about all the other bridges that collapsed that resulted in many motorists dying? Our infrastructure has needed repair for a LONG time. Not just during Biden's tenure.

Also, no lives were lost in this incident. Wanna talk about all the automotive bridges that have collapsed and killed people just driving to work over the past couple of decades?

Sulfur and asphalt?

A feller could have a lot of fun with that over the upcoming Fourth of July celebration. :04:

well it really isn't being done is it. Dems capitalize off the term but the money goes in their considerably deep pockets. How freakin' hard is it to maintain bridges and railroad? In the US it shouldn't be a problem.

So many failure on the left and still Hillary's hoards are defending those failures as if it ain't. their. fault. :doubt:

You're right, here in the US it shouldn't be a problem, but you can't blame just the Democrats, you should blame ALL the politicians, because our infrastructure has needed repair for a long time.

Wanna talk about all the freeway bridges that collapsed? Some happened when Republicans were in charge.

well it was the democrats that put that monstrosity on us talking long and hard about IN. FRA. STRUCTURE. So yeah. I do put the blame where it belongs.

And Trump may have been able to get something done about it if the demscum hadn't done their best to natter him to death for four years.
