Would anyone fear something years AFTER it was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court?

For example, SCOTUS has on at least six occasions since 1969 declared that so-called "hate speech" has 1st Amendment protection.

In 2008 another SCOTUS ruling declared that private gun ownership was to a certain degree a constitutional right.

And also note that trying to pass a constitutional amendment is difficult if not impossible.

If the justices declared a ban on military-style semi-automatics (so-called assault weapons) unconstitutional, it will not end the debate over assault weapons. Members of Congress will seek an alternative approach like a voluntary buyback program which pays people money for willingly giving up their military-style guns or a federal law that targets people who use such weapons in crimes.

I doubt the court ever does that, at least not in my lifetime and if they did, IMO most people would largely ignore it.

Actual assault weapons were effectively banned from private ownership without a federal stamp after the Valentines Day Massacre I believe. No rifle that isn't full auto can be by definition an assault rifle and if they say otherwise, they are just a gun grabber.

The "assault weapons" ban is just silly. It bans a weapon because it looks scary. The numbers don't actually justify it, as the vast majority of firearm-shootings are with handguns.

Bottom line: the assault weapons ban is just a sop that politicians throw to their constituents who are too stupid to understand the constitutional and other issues. It's like having a 70% tax rate that nobody actually pays (which the U.S. has done in the past).

The left's gun control has never been about protecting people from gun violence. You can tell because all their "solutions" impact ONLY law-abiding people.

No, the left's gun control is about disarming people who would resist leftist tyranny.

Anyone who wants you disarmed wants to harm you. Period. End of story.
