Actually, you can attribute it to the F-35. Not the F-35 itself but how it's manufactured.

The F-22 was built without the ability to expand. It has no empty space. You can only expand it from what is already there. The F-35 has spaces throughout the air frame. In order to make the F-22 like that you would have to completely start from scratch. You thought it was expensive building it, try modifying it to accept new expanded equipment.

The Stealth Skin is painted on. That means you are continually having to repair it, usually after each flight. The F-35 has it baked into the skin itself. Makes for a better covering. Again, if you want the F-22 to have that advantage you are going to spend tons of money to do it.. Much more than if you started from scratch

The F-22 has turn of the century systems. Yes, they are 20 years ahead but it's losing ground. Again, it's cheaper and easier to build a whole new bird.

There were so many things right about the F-22 and it's still the baddest thing in the sky but it won't get much better. They are already working on it's replacement. Due to the money being spent on the F-35 learning how to built it right in the first place, the cost of the F-22 replacement will be below that of the F-22. I would call the F-22 a true 5th gen fighter but the improvements on the F-35 makes it a 5th+ aircraft. Using what has been learned, we can easily turn out a true 6th gen fighter well inside the F-22s lifespan. Unlike the Russians, we just don't call anything a 5th gen, they really are. And it's not that big a leap to progress to the next level. Most of it's already been done. We just need to built the Fighter using the new techniques.

Actually, they are working on a long range fighter that can escort the B-2. Also a stealth refueling aircraft that can penetrate enemy air space safely. In my view smart move. China will be the next big war and we will need long range aircraft.

I think that was tried in the 50s and abandoned. It was to escort the XB-70. It was too costly and a fighter over his own territory would tear your escort to shreds. What makes the B-2 work is that it comes in right on the deck. It has the gas to go in and get back out. Meanwhile, Fighters will be drinking gas as such a high rate the B-2 is nearly impossible to stop.

Let's add one more thing to the new fighter. They are working on a retired F-16 without a pilot for combat. Imagine that only a few of the brand new fighters have pilots onboard that are suggesting to the AI ones on the course of action. You won't be aware of the AI until it does something that would kill a pilot like going from level to straight down pulling 10Gs. Or doing a 15G turn.

The F-35 skin mounted sensors has a longer range than it's radar. Meaning, it's also longer than the bad guys radar. The F-35 does a pulse on his radar to tell the other sensors where to look. Then he goes silent again. Meanwhile, he is tracking the enemy without giving away his position, speed or direction. Plus, he can fire his Amrams at the target without radar at all using the Amrams terminal radar when it gets close. The F-35 can do this now. The reason they left so much open areas in the F-35 was that weren't really sure of all that they wanted it to do. Look for the A and C models to get the first fighter based electronic lasers in the very near future. I am estimating 2023 for the laser. As a minimum, it should make the other guys skin crawl.

Pretty much, the 6th gen fighter will take elements from both the F-22 and the F-35 and integrate them into something even more stealthy than either of those two.

Ummm................Daryl..................I don't wanna be insulting or condescending to you, but my reply to Weatherman was more tounge in cheek than it was serious.

Weatherman is a Trump supporter, and I was making reference to the idiot remarks that Trump made when giving a speech next to the Norwegian PM when he was talking about the USA selling F-52's to them.

He misread the speech, and didn't bother to correct himself. The only place an F-52 exists is on the video game Call of Duty.

And the "normay" thing? It was a reference to how Trump's press people can't take the time to proof read their own press releases.

Dude................watch the news sometime please.

I'll just write your response off as misinformed. The Bird I displayed was the XP-52. Damn, this is one tough crowd and I get no respect.
