Right now I am not sure if he wants the whole of Ukraine or just wants to occupy Kiev and trade it for the two rebel regions being absorbed into Russia instead of the current fake situation of them being "recognized" by Russia as independent territories.

Heโ€™ll take the natural resources and farmland.

Heโ€™ll take the natural resources and farmland.

But he might not be able to keep it as I think a total takeover would result in more pressure from others.

Trading the two Russianized areas AND the Crimea would get him what he wanted originally, and maybe the west would accept it.

Didn't see neon in your list.

This is how propaganda works: Russian FM Lavrov states "The Russian operation is being carried out to free Ukrainians from oppression so they can determine their own future."

Lavrov does have a point there. More dead Russians means a freer Ukraine.

All those items the OP mentions won't be worth a shit, if the invasion and subsequent civil war reduce the Ukraine to rubble.

Is this Ukraine's future?

Let's hope not.

Right now I am not sure if he wants the whole of Ukraine or just wants to occupy Kiev and trade it for the two rebel regions being absorbed into Russia instead of the current fake situation of them being "recognized" by Russia as independent territories.
Putin intends to annex other countries and said there will be consequences to anyone who tries to stop him.

When it comes to threats, yes. Putin wants to make Russia great again....and he's the richest man in the world. Russia however is very poor.

Then you are an idiot. You can't take anything he says at face value.

WHY UKRAINE MATTERS For those who ask
Thank you, poster Weatherman.
That was informative.
I knew a little bit of that....mainly the agricultural part.
But your listing gave me a much better comprehension about Ukraine.
I appreciate your efforts to inform all on this forum.

I watched some reportage last night about the history of Ukraine.
And Wow!......those folks sure have paid some dues in terms of dead bodies.
First, the famine years --called 'The Holdomor'.... when Stalin came in and appropriated the harvests to take back to Russia and feed his citizens....3.9 million Ukranians died of starvation.

(Ukraine was long known as the 'bread basket of Europe' and Stalin coveted that resource.)

And then the Nazis followed with their atrocities: Total civilian losses during German occupation in Ukraine are estimated at four million, including up to a million Jews who were murdered by Einsatzgruppen units,

He can say all he wants, you assume he's telling the truth?

Poster Marty brings up a fact that most all should now acknowldege.
Vladimir Putin must not be trusted.

Remember when the military build-up along the border was first noted and publicized by NATO?
Then Putin said it was merely 'military exercises'.
And then in Belarus when satellites noted live fire exercises by Russian troops....Putin said it was merely "War games".
And then just about 3 weeks ago Putin said they were beginning to withdraw troops to their bases.

And then NATO and the U.S. began to reveal what their intelligence services discovered about various 'false flag' and subterfuge schemes planned by the Russians.
Putin said it was all untrue. 'Western propaganda'.

Vladimir Putin is Adolf Hitler-lite.
So far.

But he might not be able to keep it as I think a total takeover would result in more pressure from others.

Trading the two Russianized areas AND the Crimea would get him what he wanted originally, and maybe the west would accept it.
What pressure? Russia, aka USSR did fine without the West for 50 years. Putin could care less his people canโ€™t buy Levi pants.

But will his people?

Granted revolution in a oppressive state isn't easy, but the Russians have done it before multiple times.
